Again, per Jani's link....

"sorry the response took a bit of time, been off-line. As the towbar was fitted by previous owner in Germany, don't know all the details. Knowing the Germans, it must be allowed to fit one -I've got a letter from quattro GmbH that says in German "the Audi B5 S4-towbar can be fitted to RS4 with the following limitations: 12% brake max 1200 kg, unbraked max 750 kg"

The paper I got with my car says it is Westfalia type 305-208, and there are no limitations to it's use. This paper is by German GTÜ, some sort of technical authority. "

towbars

Post by rwoodward » Sat Nov 20, 2004 5:39 pm

I was changing the spare on my rs today, and found a bag in the boot that i didnt recognise - on inspection it was a tow hook! I've had the car for a year now, and never noticed the removable tow bar (i know, i know, i should pay more attention!) but just thought id say that other than finding the connection i wouldnt have spotted it!

oh well...

now that counts as an invisible install if even the owner doesnt notice!

Is it the same Westfalia one discussed here (305-208 embossed on the hook)?

Thanks guys, I'll look into this a bit more.

Daily driver (which has towbar) is on its last legs so time to get rid, which means the RS4 might have to get a tow hook.

I had a towbar made up for my RS4 here in AUS, total cost was $450 AUD so that is about 20p in your money :)

But seriously, it was an awesome job, very neat and no cuts to the bar.
