Advice needed on possible RS4 purchase

Post by Syvee » Sun Jul 29, 2012 7:07 pm

    Hi guys

This is my first post.. Been lurking a long time and think I'm finally ready to go for it

    Car in question is

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/4025456.htm (best to copy and paste struggling to loing with my iPad :D)

Just a quick question to start with

The car is a 1 owner full history car with 5 Audi stamps and 1 specialist. Has lots of receipts tyres are good, discs and pads recently, has been checked for air leaks and faults (non found) etc.. Service history is up to date and the garage in question will do a belt change for me as part of the deal the mechanic there is ex Audi tech and very familiar with RS4 B5. Question is it's been on longlife from new!.. When I worked for a car servicing company we used to advise people to steer clear of longlife?? Is this going to be a problem for me causing things like premature wear.. Car has 59k on the clock and us 2001.

Reg is y** xcw if anybody knows this vehicle

Had 40+ cars in my time so do know a few things.. But you guys seem to be the experts in this field :D
    Hope somebody can help..

    Thanks Syvee

Looks like it has had a service roughly every 2 years, and been consistently driven roughly 5400 every year.

This may be similar to myself, I work 28/28 out of the country so only cover about 5000 miles a year, but the car is used regularly and does not sit for long periods of time without use.

Put it this way, I would buy it if I was looking for one.

Also part of my business is to provide calibration services, if I tell my guy's to convince my clients that this had to be done every 6 months instead of 12 I would double my profit.

    Think about it!

    Hi,

Looks OK to me, longlife is OK if the 10k intervals aren't exceeded by much and this car seems to have avoided doing that.
2 years isn't an issue IMHO but 15-20k is
If he does cambelt make sure thermostat is done and water pump of course

The spec isn't that great but not many other with those miles.

The ad said 1 driver which suggests to me more than 1 registered keeper and owner.

Who has checked it for air leaks and faults? I can't imagine places like this doing that.

60k miles is enough to need cams so you need to see them, I am not sure if covers come off for cambelt change anyway.
If not the chances are that the rocker cover gaskets are leaking so will need to be renewed so ideal time to check cams, any smell of hot oil after a run in this.

Thanks for the reply... I only do around 6k a year too... If I go for the purchase would it be a good idea to switch back to standard service schedule .. The car is going to be kept standard .. No track time .. Just looked after cosseted and polished :D ..looking for long term ownership

    Thanks Neckarsulm

Car was company directors car and he purchased from company on retirement.. Have seen original bill of sale for the car with a purchase price of £51k which also has Directors name on it was registered to the company first then to Director second hence two owners on the log book (At least I would have the paperwork to prove) Also the last Audi receipt for service and clearly states to check for air leaks

I had thought about the cams and I'm not sure I'm going to be able to get them checked.. Car will come with warranty so I will have to check if they will be covered.. I'm guessing if they do the belts it's something that could be done at the same time.

    Thanks again for your replies

It looks OK to me, just depends what the 1 owner was like
Michelins in pic are a good sign as long as a full set
Bolster wear looks minimal as does carpet wear near dead pedal
Apparently they have had some enquiry about exporting it (2 weeks ago I heard this) but it's still for sale.

I bought a BMW 123d M Sport of Parkway a year ago. It was 3 door in White and had All Performance Parts On Its. Really Nice Car. I Asked over the phone if there was anything wrong with the car. they said the wheels are had been sent for refurbishment also its having a valet and apart from that the car is in absolute mint condition. i was told it would be ready to collect in two days. So I Sent a £500 Deposit through Paypal. Two days gone. i was excited and went up to Buy the Car.
Viewed the car. it had over spray on the headlights and some on the front bumper grills. obviously had been painted. :bash: when i asked they told me it had a paint job from themselves. because the car had stonechips on the bumper. something they forgot to mention. The Car Was HPI Clear so i Wasn't Really Bothered as i had It Professionally Resprayed after. Two Days After Buying the Car. I Was Cleaning it and removed the driver side floor mat to find two Holes in the Carpet. I Phoned them Straight Away and they Told me it was Disabled Owned Previously so it had some kind off controls fitted on it which had been removed. The Said they Never Realized that the holes where there. Which is an Absolute lie, because they had valeted it before me purchasing it. so whoever valeted it would have noticed them holes. i explained that i bought the car in good faith and they should atleast pay for a replacement carpet. its was only £150 As the capet splits in two pieces. They asked for photo of the damaged carpet. after me sending them. they finally told me it was Sold as Seen. Absolute Joke! I Would not trust these Guys At All.

Well after throughly checking the car over and checking all it's history iv gone for it... Cam belt water pump and thermostat have been changed for me as well as a new power steering pump as when they did the belt changed they noticed the pump had s problem... Front discs and pads have been done less than 5000 miles ago and there is no lip what so ever on the discs.. The car really is mint .. One owner (although 2 on log book as it was a company directors car and he took the car with him when he retired..(have paper work to prove this)) no marks on the body work apart from 1or2 touched up very small chips on bonnet interior is mint with no wear and no oil leaks that I could see... Also got 12 months warranty which should help if I have any problems... Pick it up next week.. Really looking forward to it... Parkway were very helpful and easy to deal with.

Look forward to being part of the forum and maybe catching up with a few of you sometime. :biggrin3:

    Well done.
Have just bought identical spec/colour car with slightly lower miles.

Is Hightimez referring to the same Parkway? There is one in Bham which sells a large number of cat d toot including an R32 which someone I know got stopped in on a test drive by the police because it was still recorded as stolen (it had been recovered but database was not up to date).

Parkway Derby are related I am sure to the VW dealer there.
