Anti-Dazzle Mirror Glass

Hi,

I'm looking for a new mirror glass for my RS4. I've got a 2001 B5 with anti-dazzle mirrors with a slight gold tinge in them. The passenger side has delaminated due to frost and the gold tinge has 'run' out of it as it slowly delaminated.

Audi offered me 3 different types, flat, convex and the one with the dots. These come in at £100, £200 & £300, ouch!!

I went for the flat and it came without the gold tinge to it so they popped mine off and checked the part number which was the convex. These end in F, G or H for flat, convex and dotty one. As I have the convex glass I got them to order this which also came without the gold tinge. Both mirrors came in a box with the correct part number but the mirrors didn't have the part number on them...

The part guy contacted Germany who told him that they change colour as they age. This doesn't seem right to me.

Can almost stomach £200 for the correct colour but don't fancy that much for something that doesn't match my drivers door mirror glass or interior mirror glass.

Anybody got any experience of this??

What the dealer has told you is true - the anti-dazzle mirrors go bronze/gold over time until they stop working (as anti-dazzle). My passenger side was like this:



Very bronze and had started to fog up in the middle - managed to replace it with a used one from an A8 (similar year has same mirror fitment) at well under £100 and although not as good as new it's now far better than above!

A brand new genuine anti-dazzle mirror won't be bronze at all, as you have discovered.

Do you have the anti-dazzle rear view mirror too? If so you should notice that it won't be bronze as they don't seem to wear out at all, most likely due to be inside the car and rarely in sunlight.

Ended up buying the flat mirror. My interior mirror is a little bit bronze too.

It's not too bad now that I have fitted it.

I got both of mine replaced recently with the convex ones they have quite a blueish tint and a vertical line on the side for the convex bit I guess, they are however much clearer than anti tint - and for me much better as I never really liked the fact that you couldn't see what was following you at dusk or night and especially if it had anything on the roof.

My mirrors didn't fog but they stayed tinted in patches mainly around the edge of the glass. The convex ones do not have the black strip around the outside

The "black strip" as you call it is when they are anti-dazzle rather than if they are Convex etc. I love my anti-dazzle mirrors - they work a treat

Mine are blue.

I'm sure they are somehow auto dimming, connected to the interior auto dimming rear view mirror. Maybe I'm wrong.

So, what kind are mine then?
