Today, after nearly 4 weeks, I finally get the car back and all seems to be well currently!

I was told there would be some increased noise with the new flywheel which there is at lower revs- especially third gear around 1500 revs (sounds like a tractor!) - some questions for those who have had the lightened flywheel mod: have you noticed the same? also, why is the noise more apparent in third gear?? Joshie/Prawn I think you've had this mod on your previous S4's..

I assume it is the same with the RS4's?

You can mitigate the noise by changing up to 3rd gear at a higher road speed then you had previously been used to. Also try to avoid cruising in 3rd(or any higher) gear at low road speeds.

A lightweight flywheel does NOT make a noise. The standard dual mass Audi flywheel has springs inside it that muffle out the engine/gearbox noise so you cannot hear what is already there, if that makes any sense.

The noise was only apparent at very low revs and was a kind of metallic russle. If anything I made sure that I wasn't pulling from 1-1.5K RPM in any gear and once my driving style had changed I never noticed it again.

For me the increased performace and flexibility was well worth the trade off

thanks for your response Karl. ok change of driving style it is then. at least that way, the turbos will be spooled ready for action!

The rs4 has a "damped" flywheel, so when you put an undamped, or single mass flywheel in, you reduce the weight but the trade off is extra noise from the vibration passing through. Spins up a lot quicker through the revs though.
