Uprated clutches

Post by Matthewbaldry » Thu Apr 01, 2004 2:56 pm

Any body know anything about clutches?

My mate is looking to upgrade his clutch to an uprated RS4 Clutch. Its a long story but eventually it will be fitted to a 1.8T that is in the back of a VW caddy pickup (mid engine rear wheel drive).

He is having big problems with his standard 230mm clutch not holding the power (currently 300bhp and rising)

Withe the bell housing he has he can fit a 240mmm clutch (same as RS4 size I believe) he doesnt want to risk a standard clutch not taking the power so is looking for the best 240mm clutch flywheel combo he can get, value for money would be nice to. Apparently it is best to get rid of the dual-mass flywheel as he will be drag racing and therefore launching quite hard.

I have just had a quick look around and have found these three:

ECS Stage III with lightweight flywheel ECS which is $1549.00

MTM Uprated Clutch and one mass flywheel MTM 16300euro

or

AWE Tuning Heavy duty clutch kit + Light flywheel AWE $1399.00

Any other suggestion are welcome :?:

Why not fit an uprated 1.8T clutch and flywheel? 300+BHP can be tamed quite easily with one of these, and it'll cost less than anything destined for the 2.7TT.

Cheers

What is it then?

I saw on another post (think it was an old one of Jon's) that mentioned a tanoga flywheel, but wasnt sure of specs, etc.

As for an uprated 1.8T clutch, he doesnt use a 1.8T gearbox, he has an A6 gearbox that fitted the V6 engine as it uses heavier duty driveshafts, etc. I think he could fit an uprated 1.8T clutch but the clutch would be smaller than the 230mm one he currently has.

So he was thinking an uprated 240mm clutch would be best, he does have a tendoncy to over engineer things hence a mid engine rear wheel drive Caddy. :P
