That is a very big bill! Did they give you a breakdown on the costs? Seems very high.

You can get K04's for circa £1700 a pair (Loba), new DMF flywheel (around £800 I think - hence why I just bought a new Fidanza from MRC at half the price) and full RS4 clutch kit for around £250 (I bought one last week from MRC) and the fluids, gaskets and labour for an engine pull should be well under £2k (having paid for 3 of these in the past!).

In the process of fitting the flywheel and clutch myself, I can't see this coming to more than a couple of hours labour whilst the engine is out (+ new gearbox oil + a handful of bolts which need replacing). Infact I think it will take me less than 2 hours to do. If a garage with skilled mechanics can't do it in under an hour i'd be surprised.

Not what you want to hear I suppose, but just pointing out the prices for the benefit of others who may find themselves in a similar position in future. Knowledge is power!

Perhaps. Has anyone else had the engine out for 2 new turbos? If so, what did you fork out for the job?

Blue Thunder & Grizz - Do you have experience of this sort of work or are you just doing a mental estimate? I'm not getting pi88ed off, just curious.

Paid the bill anyway, so no point in worrying about it too much now.

Hi Brisel, as mentioned above, I've paid 3 times now for engine out jobs to replace turbos on mine, twice with part worn and then refurbished turbos, then again with a brand new set of K04's. The most recent labour and consumables (eg: fluids, gaskets, single use bolts, etc.) bill was from MRC and was in the region of £1400 I think, but that was in Jan 2008 and I can't remember what VAT was like back then. I provided the turbos on that occasion, but as mentioned earlier in the thread, Loba currently sell brand new K04's for approx £1600 a pair delivered.

Two weeks ago I bought a brand new flywheel and complete RS4 clutch from MRC and they came to around £650+VAT with all the bearings and bolts required to change them. As mentioned, I would guess swapping these over with the engine out should only be a couple of hours labour tops.

You should maybe think twice before using that garage again.

Fair enough. Lesson learnt.

I don't intend to have the car for a long time - as soon as I find a decent B7 Avant locally I will change.

Thanks for the replies.
