I've now run into the sticky question of what tyre to get.

Most seem directional for that size, and I dont really want to run it backwards.

Whats a tyre thats non directional in that size/rating ?

Thought it was summer time at your end of the globe? Can the winter wheel be used as a spare, doesn't it have a diferrent rolling radius?

Not where i live. But I have the winter wheel, and need a summer tyre to fit it thats non directional.

It's only for a few hundred km, right, until you get a proper one delivered. I have a winter tire on it and kept two "kind of okay profile" summer tires in my garage. So I could have something sorted until the replacement tires are delivered (which takes 1-3 days here in CH).
keep us posted if you find a non-directional summer tire.

In my search for an affordable Winter Tyre to fit my Winter rim, I have found the following.

Yokohama S306. 225/40/18 Z Rated, 92 load index.
It cost be NZ$310 (pounds ~$110), which is pretty good compaed to Pilot Sports which would have cost NZ$700+.

The big thing, is that is Non Directional. This was my big wish, as i wanted assurance that if I put it on, I wouldnt have a 50:50 chance of running it backwards. It seems we "almost" get as much run as you brits sometimes.

Its the Audi RS4 Winter RIM. The only reason you use this, is cauz its narrow than the standard 8" rim which wont fit in the boot well.

I'm using a Summer tyre, cauz thats all we use here. Where i live, that winter isnt that bad.

What I was looking for was a low cost tyre (affordable, as its only gonna be a spare) Non Directtional (didnt want a 50:50 chance of having to run it backwards) tyre, plus Z rated and a reasonable load rating of course. Getting all these attributes took a little while, but i got there !

No I wrote Winter RIM, Not Winter Tyre. Yes I know the difference.

The Winter "RIM" is simply a good rim to use that will fit in the boot (you cannot fit the standard RS4 rim, as its too big, thus the use of the narrower RS4 Winter RIM). You can fit on it whatever tyre choice is suitable for your conditions. In my case, a Summer Tyre, which was Z Rated, and non Directional.

The big point was that I wanted a tyre that was Non Directional, and a reasonable price to use as a spare. These are rare, and I was making my findings public to the forum.

Opps. I've just read my original post, and see where I’ve typo'ed Winter Tyre, where it should say summer Tyre. But by reading the above, I’m sure you get the meaning. Sorry for confusing you.
