Motorway driving when oil is cold

I'm about tot change my commute, but it means I'll be driving on the motorway before the oil temp gauge starts to move as I live within 2 miles of it. Obviously not ideal from an engine wear perspective.

Any ideas on what the best way to drive on the motorway is whilst the oil is cold? Is it a no brainer - just pootle along in 6th at 70 until the oil temp comes up?

I have the same issue, living 2 minutes from the M1 that I use for my commute. I simply keep at lowish revs for the first few miles, pootleing as you say at 69mph in 6th. I only go one junction before turning onto a DC. By then the oil temp is rising niceley and so the beans can be released (always within the confinds of the law and appropriate to driving conditions of course).

I would have though motorway driving on cold oil is better than combined B road driving on cold oil anyway isn't it?
so long as you are not caneing it there is no reason why you should be damaging the engine.

presumably you did just as much harm in the first two miles before the MW?
