B5 RS4 vs E36 M3

Post by Sql_RS4 » Sat Mar 27, 2010 2:02 am

Now that was weird. I met a yellow E36 M3 today. 3.0, AC Schnitzer intake, AC Schnitzer manifolds, custom exhaust, remap.

We had 3 runs, 50-220 kmh.

Guess what?

This damn Bimmer was just as fast as my RS4!! Totally equal!

And owner said it showed 300 hp on dyno.

Is there so much weight difference? How could this happen? I would think my car should smoke that Bimmer. I have remap, no pre-cats, hybrid turbos, sport exhaust manifolds, my car showed 461 hp on dyno.

Any E36 M3 racing experiences?

Thanks!

They was prob not your average M3 hence why you had a "run in " with them. I do believe (if memory serves me correct) the E36 M3 was around 280bhp and the EVO 321bhp. The first was unlimited the later to 155mph. maybe they was running forced induction.
Money can't buy you love, but it can buy you a well sorted racecar

Power to weight ratio too... fully loaded rs4 isn't as light as an e36 M3 which may have been lightened further.
You really need to have a good look around the M3 to see whats really under the bonnet and to see if any weight saving has been done elsewhere in the car.

There's a street legal b5 S4 '10secs4' on youtube from the states running 10 sec 1/4mile times with ko4 turbos and less than 500bhp.. the car is stripped from the inside.
Its amazing how much weight you'll find in an average car from luxuries, soundproofing, aircon and carpets etc.. ditch even some of it and the power to weight/performance increases dramatically.
Just something to think about ;)
