as said get it to Unit 20 in Cheshire or MRCin Banbury for a good healthcheck and going over. Engine is a dam good one and capable of high mileage without anything major doing to it.
MRC / Unit 20, good advice but it’s all you ever hear on the main RS forums and neither are convenient for anybody substantially North of the border.

If you want you’re RS checked over by a specialist and are located in Scotland then get it to Star Performance in Kirkcaldy, the main man Jim really knows his stuff. Star identified and solved my long term running issue after other more hyped specialists had failed. Kirkcaldy is only a 2 hour train ride back up to Aberdeen so for the bigger jobs you can leave it with them and catch the train home.

Routine servicing doesn’t require a trip to a specialist, any good independent can do that for you (I use Volkscentre in Kingswells), but if you want the car ‘Health Checked’ or have an issue that’s not flagging a fault code then for an Aberdeen local, Star is the place to go.

For 8k it's a no brainer,i would love to buy a cheap one, then you can spend a bit to get it up to scratch, including a colour change

If you don't have it give him my number and i'll be his mate

Also,that mileage isn't that high

Plus a full wrap might be another option to solve the cosmetic issues...

Thanks again for the input guys.
To clear things up a bit, i'm getting "mates rates". He has openly told me that if i don't buy it he will get all the work done himself and sell it for market value.
Gregorfuk, I live a little north of Aberdeen and have another good friend who runs his own spray shop (Castle Park Autobody, Ellon). This guy turns out a fantastic job and i would struggle to see past him. He's a real stickler for perfection. He quoted me £2.5k and i'm happy to go with that.
So who's the VAG-COMMER you suggest?
I believe there is a broken bracket on the exhaust. I may use this as an excuse to replace the system. Everybody is going for Milltek. Any good alternatives?
