RS4 purchase questions

Post by supermoo » Tue Sep 01, 2009 6:23 pm

Some pretty general questions on the RS4. I am looking at one in North America that has been brought in from Switzerland.
1. Do all the RS4's have the perforated leather steering wheel?
2. It appears that the front headlights on this one has the order corner turn signals, while the ones in Europe have clear corners?
3. Are the brakes on the RS4 worth keeping or is it common to pull these off and put something like Stoptech's on the car?

The one I am looking at has about 20,000 miles on it and appears to be in very good condition. In North America we dont get these cars very often so other than knowing about the S4's and reading about the RS4, it is hard to get solid information.

Thanks for any input from across the pond.

1. The perforated leather s/wheel was std - there was an optional alcantara s/wheel too.
2. Probably needed to get through the strict US approval.
3. Brakes are OK for general use, much better then the std S4 brakes, but not really good enough for track days.

Make sure it has got the full approval incl. documentation or you could be in for a $20k bill to make it legal.

Thanks. The car is titled and went through the 2 year approval process. Evidently it was previously owned by one of the previous Formula 1 champs. There hasn't been much done to the car so I would look to move some parts from my S4 Avant over to the RS4 should I get it.

Just curious, are you out on west coast? Couple of years ago saw an Avus one on the I5 nr LA. Now realise that was a very rare sight.

I am out West but in Colorado. I do know there are a couple of RS4's in the LA area and there are a couple here in Colorado (Aspen to be specific). They are pretty rare here in the states. You guys always get the better cars over there. No RS 4 & 6 Avants coming here sadly.

+1

The standard brakes are ok for road and the occasional track use. As long as this is a nice original car, you should have no issues. Good luck with the purchase. I had to move all the way to Europe to get one.

If the car is Goodwood Green and Florida registered, check out some posts on Audiworld. There is an interesting character selling it.
