Boot trim

Post by drjones1 » Sun Aug 30, 2009 10:24 am

Removed the aluminium boot pull (number plate light holder) yesterday. Ground out all the corrosion prepped and painted it.

I used a base and 2k clear system, I'm staggered at how good a match the paint is. Lechler only do two shades of Avus silver. One was clearly to dark but the second shade was absolutely perfect.

Normally i spend ages adding tints to change contrast and tone. Then even longer doing a dry coat then a wet coat sample to control "flip flop" of the metal flake. I guess the fact that the metal flake is so small will help with the reflection of the sun light, whether a wet or dry coat is applied.

Anyway it was so good a match i painted the rear bumper too. just staggered at how good a match however applied.

I was going to just tidy the sills and front valance but will happily re-paint them all now in the knowledge that the colour match is so perfect.

I'm probably going on a bit here but i have a little OCD when it comes to colour matches, you wouldnt believe how many cars i have repainted cuz of a stone chip that i couldn't match...

I will post some pics later.

Do you have your own spray booth, paint guns etc...???

Used to work in a body shop and had some great times.
