B5 vs B7 prices
RE: Re: RE: B5 vs B7 prices
No, this will be the first RS4 I have owned.
Just can't get the smile off my face......
Re: RE: Re: RE: B5 vs B7 prices
if i came across another black (have to be very, very) low miles B5, i'd seriously consider selling mine - but would have to be 100% in everyway....Contigo wrote:Oh right you already have one? Thought you were a first timer? So selling one to get a lower miler? That's a brave card to play!

That's the problem you would have to be 100% and have all health checks done as things can and do go wrong and the slightest thing can set you back a few K no probs. I think sticking to your guns is the best bet as at least you know it's history!

Hmm - RS2 anyone?rtd wrote:dynamically the B7 is superior but how many times have you ever taken a second look at a B7!!!! i've spoken to several RS owners who have owned all RS cars and they all said that the B5 was the best. you just can't beat the combination of forced induction - drop dead looks and compact size - makes for a great package really.

As much as I do appreciate the Legacy of the RS2 and it's Porsce influence which has undoubtedly has inspired the B5 and B7 RS4's, I just cannot and will not get excited about it's looks, driveabilty or it's interior. Sorry!

Re: RE: B5 vs B7 prices
I was at Tesco a few months back filling up, when I heard a nice roar from the turning of an engine; turned around and it was a C6 RS6.lengster1 wrote:I think they are worlds apart in value and im in a very good position to make that statement,my b5 is for sale at pretty much half what paid for my b7 avant,i think anyone would be hard pushed to find a better b5,i tried it at 17995 with little interest so dropped to 16995,the HUGE difference is that b7s are selling the dearer b5s are not.My car will sell but the market for them is much smaller than the b7,i was a little shocked at how b7s were selling if im honest,as much as i would like to believe my b5 is worth nearer my b7 it just isnt, you can ask whatever you like for cars but when the phone doesnt ring??
As he drove past me to exit, he stopped in the middle of the forecourt to talk to me through his window - he said he owned a B5 RS4 a while ago, and, shockingly (to me anyway), said he'd rather he had that still than his (then) 3 month old C6 RS6???

TBH, I think he was just trying to be friendly with that comment, but worth a mention...?

RE: Re: RE: B5 vs B7 prices
The C6 imo looks just like a 3.0TDI Le mans and does not command a second look. The B5 though with it's flared arches, low muscular stance is unbeatable. I've looked at replacing our B5 with an RS6 C5 but imo it just doesn't look anywhere near as good and the tiptronic is just dull as. The extra legroom with the little one is great but I will sacrifice it for the extra special something that the B5 posseses.

Lengster, considering the B5's are now like 8-9yrs old and at 5 yrs old they were commanding 25-27k, do you think that the B7 will be at that point in 2 yrs? And will they be commanding 17-20k in 5yrs time? Just a thought.

After buying a late / low miler from Nick Johnson I managed to
get the mobile number of the original owner (1 owner car) and gave him a call to ask about the car etc.
The man owns a company that supplies drilling equipment to the North Sea oil companies (loaded!

He said that when he bought the RS4 new he fully planned to keep it forever as it felt "just right".
As the car got older the company accountants were on his back to change the car and buy something new.... he tried the B7 RS4 when it was released but didn't like it "not a patch on my current RS4"

He finally bought a 997 Turbo and said it wasn't a patch on the RS4 and wishes he had kept it!!

He said the build quality was crap and the B5 was a quicker A to B car

I think his quote was it was a bloody waste of £109K!!! He said he is out of the country more and more now and the B5 was sitting in his heated garage not getting used much and the thought of having two cars sitting made no sense at all and decided to let the B5 go.....
Kind of made me laugh a bit and feel quite lucky at the same time....

Just can't get the smile off my face......

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: B5 vs B7 prices
Contigo you dont seem to understand what im saying they ARENT commanding 17-20k are they? They are fetching 11-17k max beyond that you and i cannot achieve.Handpicking a private sale high mileage saloon and comparing it too a virtually undriven b5 at a specialist dealler that carries a hefty premuim isnt a real comparison at all.Regular b5s with 80k can be had for 13-14k regular b7s with 30k can be had for 31-32k now thats a like for like private sale comparison and the difference is 17-19k on a like for like basis.A b7 saloon to many isnt a real RS and carries a smaller premuim than an avant,I would like to get more for my b5 but im realistic, and think when you come to sell you will have to be too.I dont think the b7 will do quite as well on its residuals but i bet there wont be much in it on a like for like basis,i have the same views regarding the rs6 both new and old shape theyre just a fast barge that points and squirts.
RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: B5 vs B7 prices
I don't know where you are getting your stats from mate but they seem quite low. I know Nick is selling motors in the low 20's. Just because a few high milers have gone for 11-13k then I don't think it's a reflection on the whole of the market. Alot of the well specced well looked after one's have gone private for just under 17k, look at Nige's motor. They are not selling as fast and are more of a specialist motor and as the gap becomes narrower between the B5 and B7 prices then people will go for the newer B7 motor. That's the problem here.
