Another happy MRC customer

Post by lemonpuff » Thu May 21, 2009 3:03 pm

After nearly a year of happy RS4 ownership and the Dealer warranty rapidly ending, I booked my car in with MRC for a health check, plugs and fuel filter change. Even though my booking was made at short notice, they happily made time and workshop space to accommodate me.

Firstly a check with VAG-COM, apart from a misfire on cylinder one the only other issue was the timing, out 10 degrees on bank one and 3 degrees on the other - more on this later. Mine like many other RS4's still had the original MAF and fuel filter installed, both dated April 2001! Whilst the plugs were being changed (another item that looked liked it had not been changed by the Dealers at the last service!!!) MRC suggested removing the Cam covers to see for signs of wear.

Once the covers were removed, evidence of the dreaded signs of Cam wear on most lobe tips and considerable wear/play in the Cam tensioners, nice! The VAG-COM reported engine timings could be due to the wear/play in the tensioners or more likely the dealer (who did the Cam belt) not using the correct tool! Out on the road once all back together with Doug, the car’s completely different, power delivery is considerably smoother and noticeably more grunt up the rev range – fantastic, just like it should of been when I bought it!

All I need to do now is get Audi to pay for a sticking/wore clutch and the necessary Cam replacement work!! (I can give it a go anyway)

Enough of my ramblings, I thought I would put pen to paper to say that I have had many cars modified during my years and the staff at MRC are among the best I seen. Their attention to detail, technical knowledge and willingness to help and explain all aspects of the work is exemplary.

I know that for any future work (the new 3â€

Too true, now trying to get it all done under the Audi warranty before it expires but getting the usual line of 'catastrophic failure' blar, blar

So did the cams get done? Sorry it isn't clear whether you got the cams and followers replaced or it you are trying to get Audi to do them under warranty.

Sorry if it's not clear, but I'll hopefully be getting the Cam, etc work done under the warranty that came with the car when purchased from the dealer. I may try my luck and see if I can get the clutch replaced as it's always been flagged as 'being heavy' every time it's been in.

Go for it mate! Its about time Audi gave something back!

I live in Woking – not to far away from you. I don't see many RS4s around my neck of the woods
and am in Godalming at least once a week during the fishing season!

lemonpuff, hope you don't mind me posting your original thread when you were considering buying the car in order to add some context.
