Scotty. Dude!

Any insurance complications, or did the line about it being a "one - way, German public toll road" really wash?

My policy included a line about being included at the 'ring but they never asked me to fill in a claim form so I was never asked!

The car I have now is the same one and fortunately you can't tell. It's all straight and drives fine. If you could tell I'd have flogged it!

It ended up being an insurance claim of about £15k including all the replacement barriers (somewhere betweem 400-600 metres - well I was doign about 120!). Fortunately this length of deceleration probably saved me and the car. Only one side airbag went off in the collision. Basically we broadsided the left barrier and slid along it. As the barrier curved we then went back across the track to hit the right hand side. This then bounced us back to where the car sat as pictured above.

The car had all body panels replaced except the roof, tailgate and drivers side sill (just a respray there!). It had a new steering rack, front sub frame, two intercoolers, suspension all round (hence H&R and Konis ), new wheels, upgraded black headlights to titanium coloured ones, etc, etc.

It now drives better than new due to mods and looks like a later model than the 2001 that it started as.

It's not a recommended upgrade path though!

Last comment as I left the tarmac : "fecking bell" or summat like that.

p.s. this was 2002. Of course I had to go back this year just to lay some ghosts to rest. Whens then next trip?

Was that the same TT you have now and how did you get back home?

err this was the painful bit (excluding the bruising and sprained wrist). I had to come home in a hire car to the ferry, lug all my gear across to Dover and then collect another hire car.

I would always recommend AA 5* cover as you just don't know when you might need it

Wonder how many get charged for that each year?

A friend of mine was charged for about 30 meters of ARMCO when he crashed his M3. His car cost about 10k GBP to repair. He's got about 500 laps on the Ring.

But it is much worse for the bikers...

Hehe, if you need to know my friend pushed his rental
Skoda Fabia Avant Diesel to a 9,56 BTG (Bridge to Gantry).

Now that is quick - assuming it is a standard car on road tyres !

I was at the ring in September (on a bike - Ducati 996), and one of our group had a pillion ride on the back of a very well sorted fireblade ridden by some German guy we'd only just met.
From barrier to entry back into carpark was sub 9 minutes !

Us mere mortals were only managing around 12 minute laps, but then we were also getting out of the way of all the faster stuff so not fully on it (I also wanted to ride it home, not take it home in bits !)

While there I was overtaken by a very quick VW Bora, a Pug205gti on slicks, and a few other normal looking road cars, just being driven very well.
Cheers,
John.

I can relate to the hire car scenario... AA 5* is excellent value though.
