Any opinions on this one?

Post by garryw » Mon Mar 23, 2009 3:33 pm

Hi,

I used to own an RS2 and sold it a few years back, and now I'm looking to get a B5 RS4, but on regular reading of the various posts on here I know that there is a lot to be wary of and also a lot of potential dogs out there on the market.

Therefore does anyone know anything or have an opinion on this:

http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/classifieds/938739.htm

The guy seems keen to do a deal but obviously I would like to avoid any nasty surprises. I'd get the car inspected anyway but feel that this website has the people signed up with the most knowledge.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Garry

To be honest its near impossible to give an opinion without seeing it in the flesh.

Check the following:
Overall condition (the front seats looked f***ed from the pics)
Paint work
Panel alignment
Service ie Has it been serviced every 10k or 20k of its entire life
– Give Audi UK a call
When was the cambelt last changed
Fault codes
Gearbox (check the change between 1 and 2)
Fluid levels
Wheels, tyres and brakes
Oil around cam area
Check underneath car for oil leaks
Ticking noise from engine (dreaded cam wear)
I'm sure others will add more....

The best words of advice I can give you is spend a few K more and get yourself a well-cared for example.
The £s can really add up if items haven't been maintained or replaced.

There is a lovely Avus RS4 on Pistonheads for £17999. On face value this looks a far better car than 13k one...

..has to be a fly by night trader as look where the pics are taken.
Then google the Fast Performance and nothing comes up.
I'd avoid it as traders like this wont be getting cars like this because they are good examples, only because they are cheap..

Thanks for the advice, I had a suspicion that what he is offering as a p/x on mine was too good to be true and also I couldn't trace the company. I think your comments have just made me trust what I thought, so thanks.

I see that the Noggy blue one with 69k miles has dropped in price again to £13500, and I think from a recent thread that this one was considered to be good apart from a bit of nad replacement paintwork. Am I right?

Cheers

Gary

Bizarrely a 'friend' of mine bought this car.
He brought it round and let me have a go and god it's quick.
It's got a Milltek and presumably some remap to 430bhp ish - makes my stock car feel slow and lazy, it's just like my old MTM Stage 2 car which would smack into the rev limiter so easily.
Drives well though a bit noisy on full lock (more than usual)
Bodywork is good, scuff on back bumper and kerbed wheels but very straight.
He paid £13k, it's done 93k.
FASH in duplicate book with one from Fontain from 2007 when presumably they sold it as it also has their plates.
As the PH link is dead, here's a pic to remind you from Feb09 at 90k miles and advertised at £14.5k
