I can get a cracked version of thatContigo wrote:Oh and yes you're right it's an unlicensed shareware version which will let you look at error codes (well most modules anyway) and I find it's enough. It's helped me out in the past anyway.
I think the license for that version is $99. So not too bad really if you want the full thing.

I wouldn't post things like that as Uwe Ross and Sebastian from Ross Tech are regular visitors to this forum.I can get a cracked version of that will post when I find.
Also without fully paid up users like me there would be no VAG COM and thus no copy interfaces and we'd all be at the mercy of the stealerships and their £100+ per hour. Ross Tech's modest fees are well worth it IMHO.
If I used a copy cable and a shareware version on the car I viewed for you, I would have seen bugg3r all apart from the first fault code, not the other 7.

I doubt a shareware one will do an autoscan
Just go into 'SELECT' then 'ENGINE' and then 'FAULT CODES'
Are you using a genuine cable?

Auto scan does not work on the shareware version.
As Neckarsulm says all you do is go into the Engine then click Fault Codes. It will show any faults in there if there are any since it was lat cleared. You can copy them by clicking copy and then paste them into Notepad or text editor. Then clear them down and go for test drive and see what Errors are in there after the run.
In my opinion that's all you really need apart from the odd recode for the instruments but once that's setup it's set.

Can you use measuring blocks in shareware as IMHO this is the best bit of VAG COM as you can do your FATS time and measure MAF output to see roughly your BHP?
Also Coding is useful so you can program auto locking, Adapatation is useful to switch from Longlife etc
Using it as shareware is better than nothing but it really is only scratching the surface.
Also without the full fault code descriptions you'll have to look up the standard OBD description of the fault code somewhere while with VAG COM it gives you this and often a more specific description with hints e.g. 'Check DV'.

Thanks for your advice on this guys, I did manage to get NO FAULTS FOUND from my brothers run around yesterday. I too get the impression that this software is capable of allot more so will be purchasing. It's going to be handy to have in years to come and you just know as soon as you even think, there might be problem with your car the first thing your going to do is buy a licence anyway. I just need to practice with it. Didn't want to make any changes to my brother car so was being ginger.neckarsulm wrote:Can you use measuring blocks in shareware as IMHO this is the best bit of VAG COM as you can do your FATS time and measure MAF output to see roughly your BHP?

Wish there was somewhere I could try the complete version with having to be be plugged into an interface.

If you're going to make a putchase, buy the proper USB cable direct from Ross-Tech that activates the full and latest version of the software - it is the easiest way to do it and gives you full functionality.

Having a good go with this VAGCOM. Can I see real time data in the form of a GUI? boost, RPM's, torque, speed, MPG ect?
