QST S3 RS4

Post by FazS3 » Tue Feb 10, 2009 1:23 am

Alright lads, im sure some of you have come across this beast. QST's S3 with the RS4 B5 lump. I have the oppurtunity to acquire this motor but wanted some opinions and YOUR thoughts. I know the car is mental running 472bhp and goes like stink. It only has 21k so has not been driven too much, I do really like the B5 but due to its size parking maybe a problem for me.

Anways what you lads reckon of this car?worth buying?also it has been parked for a while, what would i need to be getting done on it, apart from cambelt?Do you reckon Doug at MRC would do a health check for me?I will email him also.

Any thought and opnions more then welcome lads

Regards

Faz

It was featured in Audi Driver magazine when it was completed.
I always thought it was feat of immense skill and complete pointlessness but that's just my opinion :D Why bother when B5s are so cheap now?

"Worth it" surely depends on the price - how much is it up for?

FazS3, you must be obsessed! You started a thread on audi-sport.net in October!

http://www.audi-sport.net/vb/showthread.php?t=62431

This line sticks in my mind;
"sorry to upset you guys but ive been talking to one of the guys who built that car, not kim. He said it was one of the most crap handling cars ever. Way to much weight up front."

LOL yeah I like to get different peoples view points! If i was to make a move then it will be a big one so just been considering it for a while. Spoke to Doug and he said as long as it is in good running order should be as reliable as a b5. He was very helpful and also asked him about getting it booked for a health check.

The car is not for sale as such, my mate owns it and I have spoken to him regarding it and he has said to me he will sell it to me, just weighing up my options though.

What you lads think its 'worth' I know you cant really put a value on these kinda motors but whats your thoughts?

Fair enough that LINE may stick in your head, but I dont really take on board too much what that fella has to say! It will obviously be a little tad heavy but its not like I will be tracking it so dont really see this as an issue?not as if the B5 handles as if its on rails?????

I think a comprehensive development programme at the Nurburgring is a bit better than a few laps of the country lanes around Haywards Heath :D

I also heard that that the handling was terrible. Also, if your mate doesn't want to sell it then why even think about it?

The only negative point I could see is due to the fact it is one of a kind, you could have bills to match, although in theory running costs would match the B5 unless you need to change any of the custom parts. Letting MRC look after it would be a safe bet IMO.

Through owning a S3 (as well as the RS4), I could see how the extra weight in the nose could upset the handling - I was not that impressed with the 3.2 V6-engine in the TT (same chassis) as that felt nose-heavy, and I don't know how the weights of those two lumps compare. However, that's what a test drive would be for..

It might also be worth having a drive in a well-sorted RS4 for comparison though.

Yeah I do need to take it out for a test drive. Have driven a well sorted B5 MTM 460bhp so do have something to compare it to. Doug said exactly what you have just stated should be as reliable as a B5 btu the custom parts are where the costs maybe considerably higher!

You got any pics of how the car looks now or is it just the same as the mag?
