RS4 Carbon Airbox and PAS

Post by A20LEE » Wed Jan 07, 2009 7:45 pm

After reading threads about these and nothing ever materialising decided to make them myself.

Airbox cover is done, started today on the PAS cover. Next week i'm hoping to do the whole snorkel from the grille to airbox.

Ditto!

Are you going to drill the holes that were originally on that cover?

I did try but the carbon/resin cracks if you drill from behind using the existing holes as pilots. It may be ok to drill from the front but i'd need to make a drilling template to make them accurate.

very nice... look forward to seeing a photo when it is all in place.

Have you just covered the plastic parts with carbon or will the carbon parts be stand alone?

Any finished pics?

I ordered some new parts today.....pretty cheap so thought why not! Going to give them to my carbon shop.

Both done. The PAS cover was very tricky and i couldn't keep the weave straight on the far right once i'd worked it into the recess. I'd guess that a pro would probably do it in two pieces doing the recess first then try and get a neat join. Overall pleased for my first attempt and think i've got it sussed for next time i do some, probably the snorkel next week. Oh yeah, the grey blob on the PAS cover is a finger print. My WET sign can't have been big enough  Never mind i'll wetsand it and buff it tomorrow once the paint as cured.

Excellent man! And as you've said.....for a first attempt, thats great work!

The airbox cover looks absolutely awesome!

I know the PAS cover would have been very tricky. And I've got a funny feeling my carbon guy will do it in a different way.

Fantastic work Lee. I take it the Corrado is still mothballed and bubble wrapped up for the grand children like mine is.

just fitted mine. The PAS is now looking worse for wear as i've had to cut into it alot due to the poor fit with the extra thickness for the carbon. I'd suggest that you marker any areas with less that 4-5mm of clearance and don't cover those areas. Still you only learn these thing by having a go!
