re-painting to a different colour

Post by rtd » Sun Oct 05, 2008 12:11 pm

whats everyones thoughts on re-painting a car to a different colour to that which it was originally manufactured in.

reason i ask is becuase i am considering a car in a colour which i would not have chosen as my first, second or third choice! the deal if it happens makes good sense - as the car appears to be good example (an inspection will confirm this) and it could work out favourably money wise.

however, would like members opinions on re-painting and, also if anyone could maybe give an indication to cost.

 dont do it pal buy the right coulor
in the first place as when u come to sell it
it will be worth less and the price of a proper spray job
would be in the exess 3 grand as u want the engine bay sprayed and every where else ie bear shell spray so by the time u have spent doing this its not worth it

As nick says. Unless money is no object(which in your case, I think it is) and you don't want to sell it on, I good repaint would cost approx £5k doing it 'properly'.

Either be happy with the colour you buy or wait until the right one comes along

I thought about doing the same thing, but decided for the reasons mentioned above to buy the colour I really wanted.
But hey if it's cheap enough what the hell.

Because the door shuts, engine bay etc will still be the original colour

Which colour are you looking for? Unless it is non-stnd wait for the right spec and colour, either way it is simply not worth doing.

ive only ever seen 1 car in a non standard colour and there were some piccies on her. I was kind of a pearl white , much like the alfa colour. In MY opinion - it looked the absolute business!! One can dream and in a lottery scenario my RS4 would be that colour, rolling on 20's with about a million hp!!! :P
