Will big brake affect ABS function
Will big brake affect ABS function
Plan to upgrade the brake to AP or MoVit.
But heard that the big brake will be too powerful comparing to the original one and cause the ABS function abnormally-too sensitive.
Is it ture ?

Re: Will big brake affect ABS function
As far as I know there shouldn't be any problem as the ABS is triggered by sensors. I don't know anyone who has had the ABS modified, or anyone who had has problems with stock ABS.

Do you know if AP has released their floating discs and full kit for Front/Rear ?

Re: Will big brake affect ABS function
I am not sure about floating disc but definitely a few boys have AP fronts grooved with 6 pot callipers and new rear discs with standard callipers
Can't beat a bit of boost!

Thanks Steve/Phil again !
When I checked with HK agent, they claimed AP did not offer rear disc for my rs4.
Do you have P/N for it ?

Re: Will big brake affect ABS function
1. You cannot modify ABS, tuners can't as well. If they tell you they do, they are lying. As far as I know there shouldn't be any problem as the ABS is triggered by sensors. I don't know anyone who has had the ABS modified, or anyone who had has problems with stock ABS.

2. You won't notice any problems, but it is possible that under normal braking (without fading of standard brakes) the bigger brakes will be worse than standard brakes. Under extreme braking, when standard brakes would begin to fade, they will be better of course.
What's that?

1. This is not quite true, what tuners can and sometimes do do is replace the standard (Bosch) ABS with the racing version.
2. Every time I have upgrad3ed brakes I have had an improvemnt in rate of retardation over the standard brakes. I should point out that I only use a very experienced brake specialist.

Re: Will big brake affect ABS function
Then, is it feasible to change the ABS sensor for our RS4 ?
Should the ECU be reprogram ? possible ?
My tuner told me that changing the stock brake to more pots big brake did increase more friction area but not braking pressure (or even make it less ) cos no change the brake pump.
Anyone upgrade the pump ? should it be ?

You should not need to switch to a racing ABS. The stock system is very good. When you feel the ABS system start to work, double the brakeforce on the brake pedal, the ABS starts when the rear wheels reach their adhesion limit. The front wheels still have a reserve of braking potential. The ABS will modulate each wheel independently, and help you to steer the car, from one lane to another, for example or round a sleeping tiger.
There is some thought that a racing ABS might not 'know' about gravel or snow, unless it is designed for WRC cars.
A good brake system designer will select calipers which suit the vehicle in which they are being installed. So the swept volumes of the pistons in the original and new callipers are similar. No need to change the master cylinder.
If you want to get seriously involved in brake systems, I suggest you marry into the family, as it gets very expensive and time consuming.
