volkswagen service history on RS4?

Post by ronan » Wed May 07, 2008 9:49 pm

Do you think it should worry a potential buyer of an RS4 to find that the services were carried out by a volkswagen dealer and not an audi dealer?

If it doesn't come with receipts to back them up, I'd be concerned the stamps weren't genuine and I'd need a good reason such as there was no Audi centre nearby or it was owned by an employee. If genuine the services should still be on the VW Dialog database which you can check by calling VW Customer Services on 0800 711811.
The nearest VW engine to ours is the 2.8 in the B5 Passat but no turbos.

What, all the services, even during the warranty period? I know things are different now and you can get your new car serviced anywhere that adheres to the servicing standards laid down by the manufacturer, but back in 2001 I thought it had to be carried out by a main dealer or the warranty would be void?

Seems a bit strange to me - it's not like there are only a handful of audi dealerships in the UK. Where was it serviced - somewhere remote?

IMO I wouldn't be too bothered (not ideal but I could live it it). As long as the VW dealer can verify or has supporting receipts. The car I recently picked up had two VW services and got it verified and everything checked out. The first few were Audi... as long as the services are when they should have been and what they should have been then I wouldn't mind too much.

the first service was carried out by an audi dealer and the rest were vw, the vw garage have confirmed that the mileage is genuine and that it was serviced every year and had anything done when it needed it, they say the wheels were replaced with the hard version also

i suppose at the end of the day its V.A.G so it shouldnt be a problem

im looking forward to collecting this car, 6 days to go!

In my opinion, when it comes to changing oil, filters, plugs, belts, etc it doesn't make a jot of difference whether it's got 380bhp or 80bhp. As long as the correct parts have been used (particularly the oil - do any VW's require the same spec oil?), the rest is down to simple care and attention to detail.

Well quite a few here use Synta Gold, which is also used on VW models, and VW dealers, so oil shouldn't be a problem

I would not worry either so long as they used genuine parts.

Maybe they had a VW before and had a good relationship with the dealer.

As said above there used to be quite a few dealers that did both brands ( I know we did ) we had a regular customer with an RS4 we looked after for him.
