So....how do I get close to the 600bhp mark then?

Post by blackb1ade » Fri Apr 25, 2008 11:13 pm

I have had a good search through past threads and there still appears to be some debate as regards *exactly* what's required.

I am thinking of calling Kim Collins [who's done all the work on the car thus far] and also MRC (as all I've heard are very good things regarding MRC)

Current situation is:

69k
Stage 3 MTM map + full Milltek (+Koni dampers+B7 brake upgrade+gmbh drilled rear discs+H&R ARB's+DTS...oh, and a Tanoga short shift :-) )

So according to the dyno, she has 471bhp.

But.....itchy feet again....

Anyway - as I understand it so far - to get up to 'the next level' (which I consider as mid to high 500's) I would need (basically) RS6 turbos but they'd appear to require some machining to get them to fit?

May be a stupid question but....does this basically involve binning the existing map (wasted cash IMO) and having to pay for a new custom map?

Is there anything other than going up to the bigger turbos I'd HAVE to do as a precaution or a requirement?

(and I'm assuming I'm looking in the region of 5k to have this done properly?)

Thanks in advance chaps

FMIC should take you to 500HP
If you went for tubular manifolds, K04/RS6 hybrid turbos, FMIC, (injectors/pump maybe?) you would get ~550HP
RS6 turbos, manifolds, FMIC, pump/injectors, downpipes, no cats should see you to 650HP+

MTM offer their next stage which is custom turbos, headwork etc. Seems overly expensive and not the best results in the world.

Thanks for the info

FMIC?? (a type of aftermarket intercooler?)

I have been looking at the ones that were posted as a link a short time back (although apparently they had gone rather quiet and werent answering calls?) as well....just as theyh appear to represent some 'relatively' cheap gains - but thinking rather do the whole hog

IIRC, if you go beyond 600bhp you start to go beyond the capabilities of many/several of the OE components - fuel pump being one I recall - is that it though?

Yes - I really dont think that the 520bhp option at QST is worth 12k!! I think I can get well beyond that much cheaper than that - basicallly the first call I will make is to MRC simply based on +'ve feedback from this site

FMIC = front mount intercooler :) rather than 2 small side mounted coolers.

Injectors and pump are something you would have to do beyond 500HP I think.

FMIC - £800ish
Tubular manifolds - £1500-2k
RS6 Turbos - £3k
Remap - £500-800?
Labour - 2kish?
Injectors and pump - £500-700?
Custom Exhaust - £1.5-2k

Very rough prices, it has been a while since I had all the work done to my car. If I were you I would get a custom exhaust, injectors, pump and FMIC then a remap and see how you get on. You should get over 500 and run better timing midrange giving you great punch.

At that point you can then see if you feel like ripping the engine out for RS6 turbos & manifolds.

Thanks for the info - not sure I want to spend about 10+ grand for the extra 70-80 bhp though - gets a bit excessive IMO

FMIC - IIRC there's a fair bit of modification to get these to fit and there is a lot of debate as to the 'best' one to use (IE that is worth it)

I notice your model is the S4 - they are quite different in respect of what FMIC aren't they?

What do we think of these?

I'm thinking I might just look at an intercooler upgrade now as it seems the best value 'twaek' at this point

the S4 and RS4 engine are no different in relation to bolt ons, only difference is internally where the RS4 is stronger & capable of bigger power.

Unless you are going to go all out with RS6 turbos etc etc aiming for 650+ I would say just get a FMIC and get the most you can out of you car as it is now.

Just joking with the above post by the way. but in all seriousness it really depends on what your looking for.

I would say either a set of GT turbos(gt2560, gt2860) or RS6 turbos.

To save some money and get the best performance get the ebay fmic core like mine and do your own piping its pretty easy.

You could get rid of the cats that will definitely help.

Also like stated above injectors and fuel pump.

low compression, large intake pipes, rs6 stage 2 turbos, tubular manifolds, fueling kit, clutch and you will get 600bhp

The best way to get 600bhp , drop it of with MRC with a nice bag of cash , pick it up with 600 bhp after it's had a large dose of MRC "MAGIC"..

there is no way that the manifolds are worth 1500-2000. it is just silly money for what they are. even when you take a close look at them.
