Brake pad warnign light ???!

Post by quattro999 » Mon Jan 28, 2008 11:43 am

Hi all,

out at the weekend for a blast in the rs, when the brake pad light bleeped and the light now stays on, now i know the brake pads are fine, and well not needing replaced, is there a know issue here or is it a case of faulty wiring connections,, not had the chance to investigate as yet

any hints / tips,
cheers

There have been issues in the past with false warnings - some people actually disconnect the sensors. In fact, when I bought mine, the cables were cut.

Obviously check the pads to ensure there is enough meat on both sides of the disk and car.

I'm not sure whether the rears have wear sensors or not - but always worth checking your rear pads too.

i use to have this problem before i upgraded to the B7 set up. I found that cleaning all the crap out around the front pads normally stopped the light coming on.

cheers for reply`s,,

i had a look into the wiring and connection plug`s, at the weekend and found no wires cut / joined, also the connection plugs were clean and free of dirt/water,,
may just be as dhali said, probably a build up of crap as car is not a daily driver which would make sense, i will try and take pads out and clean up ,hopefully this weekend to see if this cures it ,,

cheers

i never use to drive mine a lot either(still dont!!) . you will find like i did the rust from the edge of the disc is earthing the pads causing the light to come on. iirc it was the drivers side front. HTH.

Don't want to sound stupid, but it's definitely for the brake pad warning.....could be low brake fluid, in which case have a quick look.

its very easy for the pad wear sensor to break in the plastic bit that goes into the pad.making it impossible to see, best to check continuity you can get them pretty cheeap from euro car parts .

It was mentioned above, but the rears DO have sensors aswell, in case anyone was unsure.

:x ,, right ! , spent a good few hours investigating the problem of the brake pad sensor , removed all wheels, cleaned all the debris from the sensors but the light is still coming on :? !!

i checked well attempted to check the continuity, now at the osf there was a faint light from green positive terminal , ,but on the nsf the green light was very bright ,

i appoligise for the poor continuity diagnosis but its driving me nuts,
may have to take to my local dealer to sort as i`m lost

cheers
