I've been round the 'ring as a passenger in a members 400 bhp + S4 and it was impressive but IMHO you'd be better off with one of these, good simple fun and relatively lightweight, this one has a Quaife ATB so can put down its 180bhp without much trouble. not sure the journey to the 'ring would be much fun though with a 4.2 final drive, 80mph is around 4800rpm in 5th!
-nearly forgot to say, my RS4 wasn't great at 'ring - it was that visit in April 2007 that made me realise I needed something lighter and simpler for track use hence this baby..

Neckarsulm I totally agree, RS4 is a great road car but the 'ring just makes it feel like a highly entertaining barge with a lot of power for the rare straight bits. I still thoroughly enjoy it but something akin to that golf would be perfect. You could spend much more time at the car's limit without exceeding your own.
I was overtaken by a little green fiat cinquecento last time I was there. I wasn't hanging around and it looked standard, not even a "Sporting". Can somebody please put me out of my misery and explain this?

Hey David :)

Harsh indeed! Looking back now, I have nothing but fond memories of my RS on track and how time and time again it saved me from a lack of talent while on track in all weathers.

Caterhams are supposed to be good on track - and yet apart from a ridiculously fast R500 at Croft one time, I never had one come past me. Remember the time we all got called in at Donington by the marshalls when seven RS's stormed past one in a continuous stream through the Spitfire area? Poor bloke. He should have stayed at home.

I look forward to your call later Dave :)

My god it's like one of those Star Trek films when Kirk, Bones, Spock, Scotty and Uhururuuhulu (?) get back together for one last mission :beerchug: Dave's the good looking one so he can be Kirk shagging every green bird in sight, I've got the hair and legs so that's me as Uhurururuuuhula, PhilT as lil carnie Checkov, JR as Spock (whose favourite saying get's changed to "my cock twitcheth"), DavidT as Scotty (who now drives a Triumph instead of a starship), Tim as bones (who cares if you die), and Thorney as an Klingon (coz he's ugly and good at trouble making).......... lol, have I missed anyone?

Oh what fun times we had guys. Hope ur all keeping well.

I don't fully agree with comments on RS4's not being good track cars... after all the B5 RS4 set a not too shabby 8min 10sec laptime round the ring during testing in an issue of Evo 2000!

Also a 996 turbo is only about a fullgrown adult male lighter than an RS weighing 1620kg's, so it's not exactly a 7.5 tonner compared with our more recent offerings!
Audi also has racing pedigree, Rally, DTM, BTCC, and even the new diesel LeMans racer!

Fair enough, in standard form RS4's aren't really trackday beasts, but not many super saloons are, though spend a bit of money on them to unlock the massive potential and the sky's the limit in what you can do with them. These cars are a bit like our german equivalent of an Escort Cosworth.

I also remember the famous Noggy Babe showing up some pretty serious machinery in some performance tuning/trackday magazine a few years back, only just coming second to the 800bhp Norris Designs Evo, all the rest of the cars featured being lighter more track orientated again.

I would personally take a B5 RS4 over a B7 or M3 anyday, there's not alot else out there as special and as rare with this level of tuning potential. Only the turbo'd Porsches would be the next logical step up from the RS once you've become a boost junkie!

I've owned M5's, M3's, E55, Lotus Carlton(500bhp chipped in 1994!), NA Porsches and even the odd exotic amongst others, so i've experienced a good spread of cars to compare with here, but i really bought the RS to find myself a proper fix after experiencing that monster Lotus Carlton in the knowledge that i'd keep it and eventually tune the arse off it to take it to the next level!
I don't plan to sell it any time soon!

Next year should see the arrival of an e39 M5 in Feb to keep the RS4 company after my shitey 1 series lease expires(never again!), and if business goes well, maybe a 996 GT2 CS too, all fettled to within an inch of their balls of course!
So i'm not just pro audi either!

Love the earlier models, far purer than their latest counterparts.

Yeah, I hear what you're saying, its just that the Audis, like everything else they compete with are big heavy things and there is plenty of lighter, faster, better handling stuff for track use.

Very true, however if MTM managed to remove over 200kg from an RS6 whilst still keeping it looking like a road car inside and out, just imagine a fully sorted RS4 minus circa 200kg packing big turbo bhp!
I'm quite sure that would be a devastating car on the road or track against similar machinery!

Btw, slightly off the subject, does anyone remember that yellow elise featured in Evo ages ago fitted with an RS4 engine?
Was pushing out 414bhp! In an elise!

I have nicked these from a previous thread and post by DavidT
Recaro Pole Positions: -40 kgs
Lightweight Flywheel: -6 kgs + 30 ft lbs of torque
Smaller brake kit: -6 kgs ?
Lighter wheels: -20 kgs ?
Smaller battery –3 kgs ?
Carbon fibre bonnet –15 kgs ?
Carbon fibre front wings –3 kgs ?
Carbon fibre bootlid –5 kgs ?
Air conditioning removal -30kgs
Replacement of underseal -30 kgs
Its always nice to see actual figures for what might be saved ...

Few things ...

bonnet, 15 kg? do they not weigh more??
Seats? Pole position? weights?
Replacement of underseal?!? what is this? and saving 30kg?!?!

I have the hillclimb I entered last year over here (and came 3rd, dam scoobie and R500 beat me!) anyway(oh any more Audi's fancy coming over for it??? April 08 ), need to loose weight I recon, but like everyone, I dont want to the car to become a track car ...

I am thinking ...

Wheels
Seats (pole position?)
Flywheel (although, paddle clutch + lightweight flywheel?? DavidT, what you recon, is it gonna be a side step for every start?!?)
Air Con (can always put back in easy after hillclimb)
Bonnet (Where to go for this! plus, I have been told I should put pins in for safety as well)
Smaller Battery
RS4 B5 Saloon8) with 750+ bhp :D

All good things but when weight saving starts, where do you stop?

Won't the Seven be better for the hill climb, already light. just give it more power...
