What's the torque split bet. F/R on the RS4 B5?

Post by surfpilot » Fri Jul 27, 2007 12:11 pm

What's the torque split between the Front/Rear on the RS4 B5?

Would a Torsen Diff upgrade like the link below work?

http://www.stasisengineering.com/Catego ... N=8&PID=98

Inputs please!

Thanks,

Manny

2:1. The stasis text is misleading!!!

S4 and RS4 have both 2:1, which means it can shift a max of 66% to front or rear.
I went for the Stasis upgrade to 4:1, which shifts up to 80% to front or rear.
PLEASE, don't confuse this with the 40:60 split on the new RS4 or R8 where in fact there will always be more power send to the rear wheels no matter what the grip. This will give you a more rear wheel drive car experince and reduce the agressive oversteer our car normally suffer from.

So, I ugraded to 4:1 and put a torque sensing quaife diff in front and back. The quaifes actually will send the power to the wheel with the most grip not the once, which hang in the air as on your standard diff. So, you will keep having traction especially if you accelerate out of corners on bumpy roads.

Car will be on the road in the next 2 weeks I'll let you know how the feel is now.

Welcome to the site.

Torque split is 50:50.

Bias is 4:1 so there is no benefit in adding the Stasis torsen to a B5 RS4 so far as I can see.

Well,

I also found a lot of info saying the RS4 has a 4:1 split but couldn't find any official document supporting it. Also the S4 and RS4 torsen have the same part no. It seems the 4:1 info might be an urban myth.

Im still toying with the idea of fitting the B7 diff. By the looks of it I'm pretty sure with a few mods it would fit ) 01E boxes.

Anyone got a B7 box where I could have a look to confirm this ? ;o)

Thats interesting, thanks Dave.

Also, Stasis were advertising a rear biased torsen with 40f/60r torque split a while back with the same 4:1 Bias for the B5 cars. It seems to have been removed now, I would have tried one of those :(

I dont get it why that info has not popped out and been talked out before. I tried to ask this question in AW last year in a thread that stasis stuff was in but they did not bother to answer my question. If the part # is the same it would mean 1:4 is a urban myth but etka might be wrong too!

ETKA7 also claims that rs4 3rd gear is the same as in S4 2001-2005!

Most of the B5 RS4 cernter diffs are in fact a different bias than the S4, but as we all know VAG isn't afraid to parts bin swap. You will notice a difference by going to a STaSIS rear diff unless you are one of the rare and lucky few who got a higher bias diff from the factory.

You meant 'understeer' right Dave?

Dave, I know it might be hard to judge with all the rest of your "upgrades"!! but do you recommend the stasis torsen diff??

So, we are all happy that it is normally a 2:1 diff for B5 S4/RS4 unless, as some point, they stuck some 4:1 diffs out? That right snowtrooper? Any idea how to confirm what one we have snowtrooper?

Mine needs replacing anyway, so think I may as well go Stasis, I mean, for the price of around £280 + Postage, it does not seem bad.

+CORE IIRC. Somehow I think my RS4 trans has the 4:1 torsen. It doesn't spin the fronts as much and its pretty tailhappy.

The bad thing is that there is no way to really tell other than if you know how it should feel when driving or if you pull it out and inspect it.
