Soft v's hard wheels
Soft v's hard wheels
I got 4x soft wheels installed at the mo', non bent (yet). In buying the car last week, I specifically wanted clarifcation on the bendy wheel issue. It was agreed that during the warranty or extended warranty, they would replace any bent rims with the newer harder rim.
Are these harder rims any better ? Draw backs ?

Re: Soft v's hard wheels
The Fors and Against of the Harder/Soft Wheels.
Hardened wheels:
For - Less likley to bend.
Against - They will bend at some point.
Against - When they do bend, lesser Warranty (two years).
Soft Wheels:
For - Lifetime Warranty.
Against - More chance of bending them.
IMHO stick with the softer wheel.

Re: Soft v's hard wheels
My car had...according to an authorised Audi service center, three bent wheels for the last nine months, awaiting replacement parts! Thrash the dealer before parting with the money. I was promoised much with little delivery. Beware...
Re: Soft v's hard wheels
Don't forget that IF the alleged incident with broken suspension did occur, and that the 'soft' wheels were introduced as part of the safety mechanism, then harder wheels will increase the risk of suspension failure.
The fact that Audi still offer lifetime replacement of soft wheels tells me that the safety issue is still valid and that it must be the preferable option.

The car is mine now, and according to our pre sales agreement, any wheels which bend, will be replaced with the harder wheel. For NZ, I dont think they offer lifetime wty on soft wheels ? You only have the hard wheel option ??

Re: Soft v's hard wheels
Let's face it: there was never any issue about the suspension's reliability. It was just a monumental lie trying to cover up the monumental stuff up of putting soft rims on the car.
Who ever heard of any suspension failure anyway on the RS4?
Kiwi, get them to put some nice hard rims on for you like BBS or sportec.
ps: can you suggest a way for me to get baby seats for my car from NZ? I am coming to Quenstown end of August for good measure

Whilst I have no knowledge at all of if there was or wasn't a suspension problem, your alternative explanation doesn't stand scrutiny.
If Audi simply put soft rims on, then why didn't they just admit it and offer to replace with other rims. That would have been far cheaper and less embarassing than where many owners get lifetime replacement of the same soft rims.

Re: Soft v's hard wheels
Even other makes of wheels are soft, my incident at Oulton Park with a Sportec Wheel bending has identified a serious problem with that wheel, and other people with 19" Sportecs have had wheel bending problems.
The issue really is with the actual overhang of the wheel from its point of suspension base.
Cheers

Re: Soft v's hard wheels
Welcome Jose,
There are many RS4 owners on here and they all nice people.
Some have MTM, AMD and REVO tuned RS4`s.
All pretty good in my opinion.
