First puncture in 13 years of driving & there's no spare
Clipped a low kerb avoiding a car today.
Thought I'd lightly kerbed nearside front alloy.
Got out to check and heard that not nice noise of air escaping.
Wheel seemed completely untouched but there was a tyre scrapping hole in my nearly new SP 9000 between sidewall and wheel.
Whipped out the tyre repair foam (the original was out of date so bought a Continental kit from a contact) and tried it.
Didn't seem to completely fix leak as it's really designed to fix holes in the base of the tyre not the constantly flexing sidewall but nevertheless made it the 30 miles from Kineton, Warks (10 miles from Banbury) to home in Bham near J3 M42 by keeping speed below 50mph (and being overtaken by Micras) though around 2 miles away I started to feel that I was on borrowed time and on arrival tyre was roasting hot and nearly flat.
Tried to put some more air in but repair fluid must cause a blockage in valve as it wasn't having it.
I'm bit peeved because after 13 years of driving and not having a puncture, I am driving the most expensive car I have ever owned with tyres that are much more vulnerable to this kind of damage than most other cars yet it doesn't have a sodding spare wheel!
I am definitely going to source a spare wheel now because had this been anywhere further from home I'd have been on the back of an AA lorry and that is not a quick way to get to your destination.

Sorry to hear of this mate....I think many of us have already been in this very same boat. And we all go out and buy a spare! In fact we should have a RS246.com tee shirt for that very purpose.
Plenty of threads on this matter.

In the same boat sort of. Gave a friend a lift to the railway station and gently clipped the kerb at 2mph which has trashed 1/2 the alloy's edge. So i'm thinking of using that as a spare and getting a new one. Anyone got a good source?

RE: First puncture in 13 years of driving & there
Cheers guys.
I have 3 slightly wonky soft wheels with 225 45 18 tyres on them (don't ask) and I am going to try and squeeze one in the boot - tyre foam is a handy back up, that's all it should be.
Got a new SP Sport 9000 for £122.50 all inclusive from Selly Oak Tyres, Birmingham, 0121 471 4702
That's the same £5-10 less than mytyres.co.uk allowing for fitting (their price unfitted is £122.50).
Checked wheel and it seems no worse than before, oh well live and learn, that's the downside of driving another car with a narrow track for the other 6 days of the week!

Someone was advertising a spare wheel for the RS4 in the classifieds. Its worth having.

Got in the car this morning and drove off. Car was pulling like fook to the left and vibration was really bad. Stopped and took a look and sure enough flat tyre. Limped about 1/2 mile to nearest ATS and got the spanner monekys working on it. 189 notes later and a brand new Continental on the front nearside!
It was the only tyre they had in there of that size 255/R35 18

my car came with a spare wheel and because it sits upside down i never took much notice of it . i took it out the other day and its nothing like a std wheel, it looks like an rs6 design with a 225 tyre all brand new and unused its a bit narrower than std so the boot carpet sits flat. some say its an oem winter wheel! has any one ever seen a set of these?

That's exactly what it is, a slightly narrower winter wheel, I believe available as an option on European spec cars. I have one as a spare myself. Never used it, but that's probably because I have one, if you know what I mean. I certainly feeler happier that it's in the boot!jimbo1234567 wrote:my car came with a spare wheel and because it sits upside down i never took much notice of it . i took it out the other day and its nothing like a std wheel, it looks like an rs6 design with a 225 tyre all brand new and unused its a bit narrower than std so the boot carpet sits flat. some say its an oem winter wheel! has any one ever seen a set of these?

So I assume it fits in the wheel well where the plastic cover is with the screwdriver, locking wheel nut, generator, foam and jack? SO you just don't have the plastic cover in there and a spare.
Can I order one, I'd much rather have a get me home wheel in there rather than that ruddy gen!
