running costs

Post by jayrudd74 » Sun Apr 29, 2007 3:16 pm

a bit of advice please folks,im intrested in buying a b5 rs4,is it best to buy of a dealer and get 12 months warranty and then just extend it after that period?(for piece of mind),what really scares me about buying one of these cars is something seriously going wrong with it,and then having a car worth over 20k just sat on the drive, because i cant afford to fix it

It all depends on how good the warranty is and how mutch it costs to renew, a lot of warranty's look good on paper but when you try to claim they squirm (even Audi).

These people come highly recommended to me (to the degree that I took one out a short while ago when I bought mine - having been through the policy seems to be pretty clear and in order)

FYI Around GBP 730 (from memory) gets 13 months 'gold' cover

Hi...TBH I have always found the Audi warranty (underwritten by Mondial) to be pretty bomb-proof! I suppose it all depends on the dealership looking after your car. I get on very well with mine (known the service manager for about 5 or 6 years now). It is more expensive (last year it was £ 1357 incl).

These can be expensive cars to repair, but having said that, there are quite a few indy garages about who will be able to reduce those costs for you, their labour rates being typically at least half the dealership rate.

If you buy the right example from a previous caring owner then you should be ok. There are plenty of posts on the forum about what to look for in a used RS4. If you are buying from a dealer then you should get the 1 year Audi warranty with it anyway ... just see how it goes over the first year and then decide whether to renew in a years time.

Good luck with your search for the right car...once you get it, I can assure you that you'll be so pleased you bought one!

Depreciation is one of the biggest costs of running a car and in the last year or so these cars have barely lost any value.
This hasn't been the case until now but I get the feeling residuals should remain quite firm.

By a new Golf R32 or even GTI and you'll say good buy to at least £2k in 1st year while they are in warranty!

More like £5k if you try and trade it in at the same dealer you bought it from - robin bar stewards!
