Got a full milltek on mine matey, its a bit boomy under load at 2k but either side of 2k its fine and sounds fabulous when its on song,to have the problem from 1500 to 3000 i would agree with others in that its your individual system thats the problem or the fitting of it.Ive fitted dynamat sound deadening in the tailgate to try and keep the wife happy when pootling

Duncan, I have a Milltek on my MTM III RS4 and experience similar noise issues to yourself and others.

The cheapest and only peice of advice I have for you when cutting about town is to change up. 3rd or 4th when you normally use 2nd/3rd etc. Fiddle around and see what works for you. I often drive around in 4th/5th in town. Works for me, and the engine is powerful enough to cruise gracefully in high gear at low speeds.

Saves the ear drums but remember no response when you sink the foot unless you drop it down to 2nd allowing the banshees to wail from 2500 rpm right through the range.

hope this off some help and you havent forked out heaps on new kit yet!

Can anybody tell me the difference between the milltek sport and racing systems? Has anybody tried or considered the cat back system made by scorpion, these are very well made out of the same t304 stainless as the milltek, same style tailpipes, but cost less. I have one of their systems fitted to my e34 M5 and I'm more than happy with it [ although I hope to be changing it for an rs4 in the near future ]. It sounds subdued but menacing at light throttle openings, louder and blood curdling at wider openings, but without any boominess.

200cpi cats vs 100cpi cats respectively. Or "good" and "better, but louder" respectively ;-)

Duncan, I spoke to Blueflame today at Autosport and you could be in luck - they have an RS4 system that they would let you have at a helpful price AND as they fabricate in-house, they can modify to make it quieter if need be. If you need my contact name, let me know...

I appreciate that your post was a while ago, but can you tell me whether the sound deadening in the tailgate made much difference? I'm interested because it seems to me that the full Milltek on an RS4 sounds louder than it should in the cabin, compared to how it sounds from outside.
