Recently purchased RS4, 1 or 2 issues....can anyone assist?

Post by Matt1 » Mon Jan 15, 2007 9:25 pm

Recently bought a Green RS4 - overall very pleased, felt I had got a reasonable deal (- as far as you can from a main dealer). car goes like stink and the Mrs approves of airbags and 4x4.

However, a month of ownership has exposed a few irritating issues, wondered if anyone can help....forgive me if these are bone questions but my Mum always said honesty was the best policy:

1. Didn't notice it in the dealer's because it appeared to have been thoroughly valeted, but my car now smells of other peoples' cigarettes - previous owner clearly an addict. Have contacted dealer's post sales service people but to no avail - is it worth pursuing with them or should I swallow it and have it properly valeted myself - thinking scrubbed head linings etc?

2. Excessive wind noise at speeds in XS of 70mph from the driver's window - perished door seal?

3. Mrs suspects I am having an affair because I jump at every opportunity to "go for a drive"

Can anyone help? (particularly concerned over the first two issues)

How strange.

I have recently bought a green RS4 as well, and have a couple of issues....

However no noticeable wind noise above 70 so I guess you have a door problem.

But, there is an annoying high pitched squeaking/whining noise coming from the front of the engine, particularly bad at idle. It occasionally disappears at higher revs. My guess is that this is the fan belt, but could it be the cam belt, or a tensioner? It's had 2 replacements according to the service book from approved Audi garages.

Any offers / advice gratefully received!

PS sorry about hijacking your thread Matt ;-)

1. I would bite the bullet and get a professional job.
2. Sounds like a rubber to me and I have one from a RS4 I broke up if you’re local.
3. Let her drive the car she will soon work out why you keep jumping in the car.

Press the eco button on the aircon and see if it goes. If it does then the problem is the electric fan for the aircon which is in the engine bay I think up by the radiator.

Mine has a fair bit of wind noise (too many beans??) but at 93 k its acceptable. And besides which the performance just "blows away" all wind noise. Never driven another RS4 in anger so can't compare, but it was cmparable with my previous S4 so I'm not worried.

If the other half suspects, then you've got the perfect alibi!!!! No seriously, let her drive the car and see if she changes her mind....as we all know these cars are a tad addictive - just lucky they are not banned ... I'm sure RS4 patches from Boots wouldn't give the same kicks.

Enjpy your car.

Un-less you have any physical damage to the door rubber, have the doors adjusted. You can adjust the striker plate on the b post inwards to tighten the door. You can also re-set the door frame in the door. Door trim off and reset the 4 torx bolts securing the window frame.
