Strange problem

Post by G11DOM » Thu Oct 05, 2006 8:52 pm

Hi guys,

Last night we thought we would try a top speed run (on a private road of course :bigblink: ) and the car seemed to hit the speed limiter at 140mph. :(

What do you think is the cause of this problem?

Any help would be appreciated. :D

Dom.

Yeah its looking that way Clive. :D

You checked the MAF's last time though and they appeared to be ok, I will PM you when I know I have some spare time. :)

No worries Dom

We only checked the MAF on idle/light throttle, which tells you little more than it's reading, rather than totally dead. Looks like we may need to do some logging :)

I should be up at the next Meet, which is next Monday (16th), if you can make it :beerchug: Otherwise, PM me and we'll sort something out.

I had the opposite happen! We easily hit a very clear 172mph (on video) and couldn't find the limiter before lifting for a (gentle) bend. This was in a B7 but it seems that these limiters are all over the place. You're better getting rid of these nuisence restrictors but I couldn't find anyone that offers this service.
Did you try 5th gear?

B7 will only hit the limiter in 6th gear, for some reason they forgot to tell the Ecu to do it in any other gear. The B5 will hit 175 on the clock before it starts to limit, was common knowledge I thought, and press made it known at the time they reviewed the B5

My car used to hit the limiter at 160mph until I had a Revo trial which removed the limiter and it goes to 170+

Regarding your problem with a top speed of 140. I had the same issue with my MAF. So I'd bet on that being the source of your problem. A couple of wide open throttle logs with VAGCOM will give the game away.
