Dilemma!!!

Post by DarraghMTM » Tue Aug 01, 2006 10:40 am

Gents,

Back from a thoroughly enjoyable weekend in London.

My mate has outdone me and purchased a 2001 RS4 MTM 460BHP, Milltek, Shortshift, Porsche brakes, Sat-nav, Sunroof, 34000,etc

It was one of the most ferocious cars i've ever been in. It was violent!!

Now my question is, one of these would do it for me, but wouldn't mind upstaging him, so if you had the choice would you go for Stage 3 MTM RS4 avant (2001) circa 460bhp, or go down the RS6 route (2003) and have the potential for 55-600 bhp? and that v8 noise?

guess my fear is the RS6 would feel too big and not match the rs4 for agility.

Any ideas?

Darragh

Sounds like you have no budget, as surely they aren't the same price?

Oh yes, well being honest i don't have a budget, but would hope I wouldn't have to go much over 32 max.

I'd go the RS4 route....the RS4 holds out quite good with 500+ HP..

(according to guys that have that kind of power over on RSquattro.de)

You will destroy your mate with that kind of power....
An opinion is like an asshole, everybody has got one.

In my opinion, anything over 480 is not worth it...

A stage 3 car is as far as I'd take it... after that you're into diminishing returns for your outlay...

Power isn't always everything. Same goes for suspension and brakes. You could have 600bhp, barrow loads or torque brilliant brakes but a poor driver will still be a poor driver and won't be able to get the best out of the car..a good driver in a lower power car could probably be quicker in real-life terms.

Don't get me wrong, the mods can help make the car a lot better but improving driving skill will also help.

Well, that's the touch paper lit...now retiring a safe distance.......

I think low down torque is key for road/town driving, bhp only comes into play at high revs....

my rs4 has 430bhp and feels great. however, my friend's rs6 avant has 520bhp and feels completely insane. i don't really reckon the size difference between the two is huge, so i reckon it boils down to price and whether you're happy to drive an auto. personally, if i could afford a good rs6, then i'd jump at it.

Hey Dom,

I would like to hear more about the experiences of both these cars. Would you think the RS6 with the Auto box would have a less driver involvment feel to the experience?
I'd also like to hear your views on the sound od both cars. I'd be very tempted into an RS6, just for the audibles alone!

I also imagine the RS4 feels more agile.

And finally yes I accept driver skill always leaves a lot to be desired! I'm keen but safe. That's about it!

Cheers for the advice and knowledge though fellas.
