Now, lets have it right surely a vehicle is worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it. This thread is really full of <beep> my RS4 is on a 51 plate with 26000 miles with sat nav etc and you wouldnt be able to buy that car off me for less than 30,000. Now im pretty confident that someone would give me that for it so that makes it worth that. Now you go out and buy one and drive it when you have come back on this forum and tell us how much you think its worth, if you want a budget motor go and buy a Mondeo.

Had a bad day...or having difficulty selling your car...?

Your comment is entirely subjective and is a matter of opinion - so are you referring to all the contributions or anything in particular? Please share your thoughts with us...

Now, you're absolutely right - a vehicle is worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it, and of course how much someone else is prepared to part with it for - willing buyer, willing seller. Most of the comments made above are based on just that.

As another example : I recently witnessed the sale of a 2001 RS4 X reg, well maintained, nice example, 91k - sold for £18,000, and from a dealer at that.

Logical or not for a vehicle of this rarity and performance, the launch of the B7 RS4 does seem to have put some downward pressure on the B5, albeit hopefully temporary.

No Clive i have had a good day and i wouldnt want to part with it as it is my pride and joy, hence why i get the arse ache when people start questioning the value of what i would call a legendary supercar. Now if your going to question the value of such a car then maybe you cant afford one in the first place there is no such thing as a budget RS4 regardless of age mileage condition because they are all owned by enthusiast's who dont want some cretin trying to tell them that there pride and joy is worth less than what they value it at, if you want a bargain go and look at Rover's.

And when i say you i am not refering to anyone in particular unless the label fits of course

chacun a son avis!

Post by CliveH » Thu Jul 20, 2006 10:39 pm

Conclusion : you're not a willing seller, you're perfectly entitled to your own opinion (even though you're unable to explain the "<beep>" you believe everyone else is talking), but you shouldn't make assumptions about people you don't know.

Incidentally, I'm not questioning the value of the car, merely stating some facts. Oh, and I have no interest whatsoever is Mondeos or Rovers, funnily enough

Sorry Dace, I was replying to ScottyBoy, just as you posted your own reply...

BTW, I'm also an unwilling seller  but maintain an objective view of such things (ie all those willing buyers and willing sellers out there).

i know of at least one ex-RS4 owner who certainly wasn't an enthusiast who only bought the car because he thought it represented exceptional value for money. he had no idea, nor any interest in what the car did or represented. when he came to sell he priced it at what i believed was an exceptionally cheap price but struggled to move it. i think the reason for his lack of interest was down to two things. the average man in the street in this day and age finds it difficult to justify spending over 20k on a five year old car and the fortunate few to whom money is no object will spend their cash wisely on a brand new car complete with warranty and all the advantages new car purchase brings.
