Pay by bankers draft.
Get the draft to be issued at a branch near the seller.
Ask the seller to come with you into the branch so he can witness you receiving the draft.
Then pay the draft straight into his account.
Advice Please . . (handover bankers draft and rs4)
It's a tricky one isn't it - there are dodgy drafts out there and therefore you can understand the seller being careful. Put yourself in his shoes and wonder what would happen if you handed over the keys to your pride and joy and the draft was a fake!
When I bought mine privately I checked the seller out thoroughly but he was quite willing to accept my draft and hand over the keys (but I was willing to collecte the car next day if necessary).
Have you done an HPI check on the car? If he has HP on it and banks the cash without settling the HP you do not have clean title to the car, and the finance compan ycould snatch it back from you if he defaults.

Congrats on the car!!
When I bought my previous S4. Did the HPI check - clean.
I took the seller to a branch near him which I'd previously arranged to have them produce a bank cheque. Can't remember now why they didn't issue a draft but essentailly it was the same thing issued to him from the bank's manager. - Job done!
