I am new round here, so I hope people don't mind me resurrecting this dead thread. I am surprised nobody has mentioned Porsche 993 / 996 depreciataion when thinking about what effect the new car will have on B5 RS4 prices.

The experience of Porsche prices is that the better 993s now cost more than the older 996s. This is because the 993s are much rarer and less mass produced than the 996s, and also because the 993s were the last of the aircooled Porsches. Same may be true for the RS4 old and new.

Another point to remember is that the new RS4 has 5-6 years of falling to do before it gets to the point of the B5 RS4. Prices are not going to suddenly merge, but price differential of old vs new will slowly close over the next 5 years I think, mainly driven by whether Audi chooses to flood the market with the new car (signs are they are going to sell every one they can) and whether Joe punter can tell it from a 1.8T with S-line bodykit (I can barely, so Joe will struggle).

Bottom line is that as long as a car is rare and distinctive, and continues to get good press, the enthusiast's market will remain, keeping prices relatively stable. I think an investment in a B5 is as safe as putting your money in any other car, and a whole lot better than a new povery spec BMW 330i!

I just need to get out there and test drive some...problem is most of the RS4's that are up for sale at the mo seem to be standard, which after mine with big midrange grunt will seem a touch flat i would imagine.
Tweeky,

I came from and AMD chipped S4 with RS4 suspension to my standard RS4. Even in standard form the RS feels a completely different car and so much better in so many ways even though I did miss the mid range punch of the chipped S4. However chipped S4s don't rev. The RS on the other hand holds strong all the way to the limiter which makes it sooo good for staying one or two gears around tight roads.

You really have to test drive - Even a stock one to appreciate the difference. Then you'll know what you like!

Re the prices - They're not going to change much. The B5 will always be a great car in so many ways!

More than the S4 was :)

Don't know the exact figures as i had it done at MRC and they don't have a RR yet. But was estimated at 515 - 520bhp, not sure about the torque, but i think it is pretty hefty, cos a standard remap is meant ot give you approx 20% more torque so i have heard........i wasn't overly impressed with the usual remap, and so i think Mihnea squeezed a bit more out by uping the peak boast form 1bar to 1.2bar, so i really get a good midrange shunt....and to be fair it keeps on going right up to the redline, unlike the S4.

I love it!!!! but am needing more power already.....you can never have enough i think, especially in a heavy barge like the RS6.
