Vibration on steering wheel

Post by OscarH » Tue Mar 28, 2006 9:53 pm

Guys,

I have noticed a slight vibration on the steering wheel when I hit about 40mph. It seems to be slightly worse when driving in low gear, though not sure if that is my imagination. When driving faster it is less noticable.

The mrs. has hit the kerb with the left front wheel ca 2 weeks ago, though she claims it wasn't that fast. :x

It was enough anyway to damage the rims (19" MTM Bimoto). I will get it booked in to have it checked out. Any other theories on what it might be?

Thx, Oscar

Sounds like the old bent rim symptoms, and these 19" rims are fairly easy to bend......I hit a small pot hole at very low speed and the rim was beyond repair.

I had a similar problem, but it was worse when braking...

The problems was a warped disk and low tyre pressure on one of the front wheels...

For me it was indeed a bent wheel. Replaced it and perfect again.

Oscar may have knocked tracking/wheel alignment off depending on angle/force of impact. Just a thought.

Oscar ignore last entry then. So was it £400 for a new MTM rim?

This situation seems to have resolved over the las wek or so. Wonder if weather related?

Unlikely to be weather related... unless you get a build up of snow inside the wheel........... wrong time of year for that... I had a similar problem after the first and last track day....... on AP brakes. Again turned out to be a bent rim, obviously hit a curb too hard at Donny, wheel has been repaired and the symptoms have gone again..
