Re: Taking RS6 C5 abroad

Brilliant trip!! I drove Oslo, Goteborg, Stockholm, Lakselv, Nordkapp, and then all the way down the coast to Trondheim and back to Oslo in 1978. Took 3 weeks and was just on 3000 miles. Did it in my Ford Escort RS2000. It was in the days when most of the road north of the Arctic Circle was still b...

Re: Gearbox question

A follow-up to this problem: This problem was rather sporadic and was getting worse and worse as you'd expect if the gearbox was failing. But, having obtained a Vagcom and reset the error, I haven't seen it since. At no time have I felt that there is anything mechanically wrong with the box....so, a...

Re: Taking RS6 C5 abroad

I only took the RS6 abroad once.... Took the boat from Harwich to Esbjerg in Denmark, then drove across Denmark, up Sweden and across to the norwegian Lofoten islands in the arctic....where the gearbox decided to go into safe mode, about 1000 miles from home. Luckily, the gearbox can be fixed by tur...

That happened to me in 2008.

I think the bill was about £1100

Re: Gearbox question

Well, got home, got a Vagcom, connected it up and voila: 1 Fault Found: 17090 - Transmission Range Sensor (F125): Implausible Signal P0706 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent Seems I need to replace the F125 with something that sends a more plausible signal. ...anyway, better than replacing the gearbox. :)

Re: Gearbox question

Well, I couldn't think of a better username at the time, so went for irony.

I had my DRC swapped out with PSS9s back in 2007.

Re: Gearbox question

Thanks again.

To be honest, the last time I used vagcom a few years ago, I couldn't make much sense of it. With a new gearbox at stake, this time I'll be reading the instructions. :)

Re: Gearbox question

Great info! Thanks!

That it could be something outside the gearbox is promising indeed. I'm sure it will be awkward to get at though. :)

Right, just need to get hold of Vagcom.

Gearbox question

Hello RS6 experts, Has anybody had the following C5 RS6 gearbox issue? No doubt the local audi garage will just want to replace the whole gearbox, but I'm curious as to what could be wrong before I approach them... When putting the car into gear for the first time after engine startup, one of two th...

RE: drivers door seized up !!!

Are you absolutely sure that the lock operated?

Violence is the answer when the door is just frozen into its frame, but if the lock sticks there is not that much that can be done until it warms up, which takes ages even with the heater full on.

RE: Warranty for 5yr+ old cars

This is one of WarrantyDirect's conditions: "2. We will not pay for Breakdown of any insured part within the first ninety days of your policy incepting (unless it is a renewal) where the breakdown of that part is caused primarily or in whole by wear and tear." On a 5 year old car, any breakdown can ...

RE: Warranty for 5yr+ old cars

Lig, it is indeed a gamble...and come to think of it, my major expenses have been on stuff which is not covered anyway like tyres, brake disks/pads and servicing. The two things which have broken have been the alternator (£600)and the DRC, which I replaced with PSS-9s for £1700. So that's £2300 in 2...

RE: Warranty for 5yr+ old cars

Lig, I've been taking your approach for a couple of years....and I guess I've about broken even on repair cost against warranty premiums, although I'm too scared to calculate it exactly. :) Now, after spending £600 on a new alternator I'm starting to see that it may be worth getting a warranty now t...
