Re: New Speed Camera Rules under the Tories
Unfortunately there is a flip side to that as well. Is it really fair to charge $100,000 for a few mph? Does it really matter how much they make? That's $100K less that they have, which they earned. I think small fines, for un-intentional speeding in NON-danger areas should be the close to the same ...

Re: New Speed Camera Rules under the Tories
The flip side of which is that without points against the lisence, weathy individuals would have a "license to speed" as they could afford the fines. Perhaps the fines should be based on income? $100 for the poor, $100,000 for the occasional royalty. Cheers, Adr...

Re: Don't mess with Saab!
I have nothing against a good handling AWD car, I just wish Saab could get the smoothness, power, and reliability from that Subaru engine that they got from their own engines. Saab has been mass producing turbo engines for a very very long time, and I just think they could bring a lot to the table w...

Re: Don't mess with Saab!
If you want to know what's wrong with the Subaru engine here's the start: It's not a totally reliable 300 hp engine. Certainly not on pump gas. Unfortunately I live in California, where even the new EJ25 STi has trouble running 14.7 psi on our pump gas without detonating. I've seen guys with the old...

Re: Don't mess with Saab!
Or the transmissions. The old "Classic" 900's from the 80's and early 90's had awesome handling, and good engines, but if you got too much power from them your 3rd gear toasted. Guess there's always something aye? I just wish the new Subaraab had a Saab engine. ...

Re: Don't mess with Saab!
Just got some dyno results for my stock MY2002 Saab Viggen. 206-211-213 horses for runs 1,2, and 3 The first run (lowest hp) yielded the best torque because I started the run at a low RPM. First Run: 251 wheel lb ft and 206 wheel hp Certainly not bad performance wise for a stock car in any measure. ...

Re: Whats the worst car you have driven ?
I live in America ... land of the loafer. Haven't driven any Rovers ... but maaaaan ... plenty of very akward vehicles. Everything from beat up old Crown Victorias, to Toyota Avalons. Worst was an old 55 Willys. No power steering, brakes, no hydraulic clutch ......

Re: Titanium Rotor
It's hard to say. Since even "cast Iron" is actually an Iron Carbon alloy much like steel it won't have the exact same properties as pure iron. But it shouldn't be too drastically different, so if we compare Iron (Fe, crystalline structure: Cubic, body centered) and Copper (Cu, crystalline structure...

Re: Titanium Rotor
Indeed, but that's true of any nice pair of brakes. While for racing purposes copper isn't as good as Beryllium or Carbon, for a street car it could be very adequate. Trouble is that it oxidizes much like iron does, and this oxide is greenish, which might look a little weird. But I thought of a solu...

Re: Titanium Rotor
Airplanes often use Beryllium rotors which conduct almost as well as aluminum but are LIGHTER than aluminum and much much stronger. They also don't melt as easily. And suprisingly, copper conducts heat almost TWICE as well as Aluminum does, is harder to melt than aluminum, stronger, and only weighs ...

Re: Don't mess with Saab!
That's the same engine that's in my best friend's dad's Camaro. Thanks to HUGE tires his stock SLP Camaro does 0-60 in 4.9 seconds. But from a moving start my Saab keeps right with it. Not terribly impressive, now take the new Holden thingy and take into account that it's taking 6.4 seconds (Saab ag...

Pikes Peak? Here are a couple mean videos of the Saab Pikes Peak car. Give the Audi guys some idea of exactly what they have to beat. Best Video (11 MB) Good Closeup of the Car (31 MB) Both very cool videos, and a sneak peak at the kind of performance the new Aud...

Re: Titanium Rotor
I recall a Saab concept car used Aluminum rotors. Sounds crazy but here's some info to consider on properties of Al vs. Fe: Thermal Conductivity: Fe: 0.802 W/cmK Al: 2.37 W/cmK Rigidity: Fe: 82/GPa Al: 26/GPa Coefficient of Linear Thermal Expansion: Fe: 1.176E-05cm/cm/°C (0°C) Al: 2.39E-07cm/cm/°C (...
