Another issue worth mentioning is the exhaust manifolds. If these need doing it is an engine out job - i.e. circa £1,000. Mine started to go at 110,000 and were replaced. As the engine was out, I had the KO4 conversion done then. The original K03s were still good at the time.

Agree with your comments; and I'm sure one day they may ban it. I was in the US recently and struck how they had solid centre lines for miles, when overtaking was perfectly safe. I guess there is safe overtaking, and then not quite so safe overtaking. 380 bhp does you give you the ability to overtak...

The course costs £180, and lasts 1 and a half days. I have signed up as this is a lot cheaper than the fine, prosecution costs (assuming found guilty), points, increased insurance costs etc. I will hopefully learn something and be a better driver/less of a menance to other road users. Seems better t...

RE: National Driver Improvement Course

An overtaking manouvre which was a little tight. It was dark so didn't see the police car. They pull me over and say it was "careless driving". Paperwork comes through, and as an anternative to prosecution, points & fine; they offer the driver improvement course; so I accept it. Seems fair enough, a...

RE: high mileage S4

My S4 has done 115,000 and there have been no major engine problems. Blown turbos are the big expensive engine problem. Mileage is somewhat of an indicator - if you read this forum, you could come to the conclusion that turbos are due to blow at around 80,000 - however, how the car is used when cold...

National Driver Improvement Course

I've been invited by my local constabulary to attend a Driver Improvment Course. Has anybody done one of these? What does the course consist of? Was it useful? Did everybody pass viz be deemed to have completed the course satisfactorily?

RE: lifespan of KO3 unchipped!!!

I think the key is to, as is said above, drive like a granny until the oil pressure has warmed up. For me this means keeping it under 2,000 rpm until the oil gauge has started to move. Also, not to shut the car down immediately when it is hot - evem if this is just another 30 seconds (the after-run ...

RE: Oil Coolers for KO4 conversion - how much

Thanks for you help, guys. Noted, your comments on cam belts etc, but that stuff was all done at the 70,000 mile service. However, cost is a consideration at the moment. I know that given a few grand more I would throw a lot more at it; but I guess I'm after a reliable 400 bhp for a car that isn't t...

RE: Oil Coolers for KO4 conversion - how much

Thanks guys. I'll probably leave the oil coolers out for the time being, given I will not be using it as a track car and I drive like a granny for the majority of the time. I'll keep an eye on the oil gauge for when I take my granny gear off.

RE: Oil Coolers for KO4 conversion - how much

How much was the MRC kit you had fitted, Jeff? And do you know the cost of the RS4 oil coolers? Also, does the mapping need to be tweaked with the new oil coolers to get more power out, or will it natually produce more power due to the oil running cooler? Or does the oil just run cooler and that's it?

Oil Coolers for KO4 conversion - how much

Finally going for the KO4 converision after having had the car for a number of years. The engine has to come out to have the manifolds changed, given that they are ratling. While it is out, KO4s will be put on there with RS4 inlet hoses and RS4/MTM fuel kit. Sports Cats, full Milltech, Mov'it brakes...

However, a statistical randon sampling of people will probably reveal that when a car is travelling 2 inches from your rear bumper, it'll be a BMW. I once had one BMW driver projectile spitting at my car because I pulled out in front on him a bit sharpish. Lovely chap. I am sure he'll make a good fa...

RE: 100,000 Mile Service

Yes, such a link would be good. You could have a sensible discussion with the mechanic then knowing what he is suppose to do, and what extra is recommended to ensure our beatiful little S4s are kept in top condition.
