RE: Coming out of a deep coma
Quick update: Installed a new battery bought from www.carbatteryshop.co.uk. Same spec as the OEM which has been in there since new and had sulphated badly during storage so wouldn't accept a charge. 72Ah 680CCA for anyone who might need this info. £57 delivered. Was great to hear the solenoids, valv...

RE: Suspension Knock - Advice Needed
A4 B5 platform is particularly susceptible to this. many vehicles had a recall to correct issue with suspension arms. You might find a quick call to the main dealer saves you a few quid. Just ask "I believe there is a an outstanding recall on suspension arms for my vehicle. Could you check the reg a...

Any one have a rear coil spring removal "How-to"
I realise that the general principle is fairly common between most vehicles but could really do with a set of photos and instructions on rear coil spring removal since one of mine is broken so they now need to come out as a pair. Also any views on replacing OEM with something no more expensive. Thanks

Coming out of a deep coma
For 2 years I've been cheating on you all. I put my B5 S4 Avant in the garage in September 2008 and it's stayed there while I drive a company 335D M Sport. There you go - I've said it. I realise this is a bl00dy heartless thing to do but the bonnet catch was stuck fast and about the best I could do ...

I think you're on the right lines here with your letter. I'd add that you should probably call the switchboard and get a name for the guy who heads up the fraud department. Make sure he get's a registered copy of your letter and follow up with him by phone so that he can understand that you're a rea...

RE: MAF life pole
Mine had a new MAF at around the 100k mark and had probably been gone for a long while before I gought it. was reading 140ish IIRC. Now at 137k on replacement at still reading 257 MRC remapped. No deterioration whatsoever in 37k miles:-)

Woody, If I'd have known that you could have done this then I wouldn't have hesitated. I need a VAG-COM health check and maybe MAF. You interested? You just have to promise not to make me have KO4's yet. I have a new daughter and am still chaffing a bit from moving house. My car expenses are under v...

RE: Ticking noise under load - diagnosis.
Hey woody:-)
Performance is still spot on. Planning to take it up for a 6 mth health check at MRC next week which should show any fault codes. Ticking has been completely unaffected by cambelt change.
Would a cam follower or cshaft be a problem or just one of those things you learn to live with.

RE: Sold
I've been a customer of Etyres for a while now and go through a lot of rubber as I've been doing about £40k a year in my Avant. Always gone for GSD3's in the past and absolutely loved them, even though I never had anything to compare them with. Each time I order GSD3's the guy at Etyres calls me bac...

Ticking noise under load - diagnosis.
For the last 5k miles I've had a slight ticking sound with the window open in m. storey car parks etc when picking up revs under load. Not sure whether it is related to turbo or engine speed. I'd suspect the former. No blue smoke or anything yet but on a 135k car I have to wouder how much longer my ...

Because it needed oil of some description in it and I didn't want to pay decent money for Mobil 1 when I knew I could get it at KF for silly money. You're right though. Probably cutting off my nose to spite my face. Pricey - I thought I was on to a good thing. But then If I really think about it I'd...

Think I'm probably getting my pumps confused here. Yes - it was the main pump. Was you brother's UR quattro modded and in for anything to do with tuning. As I said - mI recognise that John Bowles is not a tuning shop. It is however quite a cost effective alternative for servicing items.

I've used John Bowles VW and Audi in Tunbridge Wells for about 5 years for my 1996 A4 V6 2.6 and A8 4.2. More recently I've used MRC for the S4 and tuning issues but couldn't get in to see Doug this time round so I wen t beack to them with a pretty big list on my high miler s4. What do you think to ...
