thanks all - i have taken the plunge and booked with AMD. Im afraid after they warranty lapsed (i advised them of a new address and they still sent the renewal to my old one - still fault I suppose), i dont want to give the stealers any more money. OK - just got my 03 RS6 back from my local garage where my very good "local" mechanic has diagnosed a soft (very) shock on the back drivers side. He mad some enquiries for me to a technical line at VAG and they said the whole DRC needs changing...! I have read a few posts here and realise its a comm...

Apparently not on 2003 cars - i have "had a feel" through the gap and the loop / bar thing isn't there.
