As far as I know swirl marks are just the fine lines that form the 'spiders webs' due to the sunlight hitting from every angle.

Damage caused by PC's and Rotary is known as marring - can also be caused by clay bars.

Swirl marks are usually caused when washing and drying the car, I think everyone knows these days not to use a sponge but a microfibre mitt or even a lambswool one. I don't get this - how can a clean sponge cause any marks? The principle of keeping the sponge clean also applies to the MF mitt, does...

A leaf blower. :D That is until you forget that the previous time you used it it was on the vacuum setting, and its got a load of crud, grit, leaves and all manner of evils jammed into it ready to be pounded into your paintwork   Chuckle, very good point! However, I was that sad enough...

Swirl marks are usually caused when washing and drying the car, I think everyone knows these days not to use a sponge but a microfibre mitt or even a lambswool one. As for drying, same principle applies for a shammy (chamois) - at the point in time it picks up a piece of grit/dirt that grit will sta...

Mark Barnes, 33 - about 3 foot.

Current car is a B6 S4 4.2V8 (360). Previous was the famous EVO4EVA (famous if you know evos anyway) EVO IX GSR and I've had other stuff such as A4's etc.

What do I do? Hmm.. I import Kosovans and trade them in for potatoes.

It was a 2.0l Japmobile that was pretty much stretched at the limit at approx 410+bhp/430lb torque. The downside was that I got approx 150 miles from a 55litre tank and if I really gunned it approx 80-100.

So in comparison the S4 is a god send in terms of relative fuel economy. ;)

It always amazes me when people ask with regards to the mpg of a performance car, if you have to ask then you probably should be looking at a nice diesel car perhaps.

Actually, I'm quite astounded by the generous mpg that the S4 has compared to the previous car I had.

I am assuming that the OEM alloys on the S4 B6 are 8.5x18. Fitting 245's to your car may introduce tramlining and limit the ability of the car's handling characteristics.

Well I've picked up the car today and what I can say;at first I was not overly impressed by the pickup so I decided to sit as a passenger and.. Blimey! The problem (or the good thing) with the S4 is just how quiet the engine is - with the Evo you directly correlate sound to speed so its a bit of mis...

Re: RE: Re: RE: Just about to get a S4 Avant 4.2

Hi I appreciate that you were running a highly modified Evo but buy and S4 and run it for a bit. I like fast cars but in standard form the S4 is highly impressive with lots of low end grunt that you may find the Evo did not have. Tell us what you get - they are pretty cheap now. Hi Merlot, fair poi...

Re: RE: Just about to get a S4 Avant 4.2

Hi Scotty, That is actually a very reasonable cost for those types of modifications that you have stated. I had visions of it being in the 10's of thousands considering this is an Audi to begin with.. ;) I will have a look about this forum section to see what the reliability issues that may arise fr...

Just about to get a S4 Avant 4.2

Hi Chaps, I have just completed a deal on a 2003 S4 Avant (4.2) and would like to find out if there are any niggles that I should be looking out for and more importantly.. What performance options are available for this car? :D Basically I am moving on from an EVO IX (420bhp/430lb torque) and while ...
