Re: C5 RS6 Valve cover gasket replacements both sides

You can loosen the back 2 bolts holding the fuel rail enough to have some play, but to answer your question yes, there are 3 Allen bolts plus one ground nut/bolts setups to remove if you want to remove the entire fuel rail. The service manual calls for new rubber seals if you remove the injectors. I...

Re: C5 RS6 Valve cover gasket replacements both sides

Yeah, the water pipe has a bolt under the valve cover, remove it and move the pipe carefully out if the way enough to get the cover off. On same side it helps to remove the fuel line along with the fuel rail (first pictures, last one is with the fuel rail partially loosened ). Combi valve as well, b...

Re: Help with sourcing vac lines etc.

Wait, you were able to remove the intake manifold without removing the front end? 🤔

Abs code 00283 front left sensor short to plus

Hi! I’m trying to troubleshoot this error on my rs6. So far I’ve tested the resistance and it’s 1.640 k ohms, also it reads 4.7V on the cable coming from inside the car (disconnected the abs sensor and hooked up VCDS with module open). Cleared the code and it immediately comes back. Took off the sen...

Re: Suction noise after transmission fluid/filter service

Update: Well, this is going to sound pretty dumb, but the suction noise I was hearing was the front hubs spinning. Since I had the front end off for the timing belt/ chains and tensioner pads job, I never put the front wheels (or bolts back on). Even though I had my foot on the brake pedal, it wasn’...

Fuel filter replacement

So continuing my maintenance saga, I tackled the fuel filter job. Well, of course it’s not going to be an easy peasy job since the car is 22 years old. The bolt holding the fuel pump is just spinning even after soaking it with WD-40. Could not get a mirror in there since it’s tight to see what is be...

Re: Suction noise after transmission fluid/filter service

The sump pan is not damaged, the measurements are done on the transmission itself. The pan measures 70mm at its deepest point on both sides. The 68mm and 70mm measurements I talked about are from the upper edges of the transmission to the tip of the pick up tube on the filter. Basically the filter i...

Re: Suction noise after transmission fluid/filter service

It did cross my mind to cut 2mm off the neck, but since it’s my second time doing the same service I decided to buy the ZF filter and compare them. If they are exactly the same after measuring again I will trim the ZF filter. It’s getting here next week. My mistake was to throw out the old filter. I...

Re: Suction noise after transmission fluid/filter service

Yes, the filter neck is 20mm (or 22mm measured from that little gap). But it’s a Vaico filter. Looking at the filter, it looks perfectly straight. But when I measured on the left side there was no clearance and on the right side there is maybe 2mm . There are 70mm from the edge of the sum to the dee...

Re: Suction noise after transmission fluid/filter service

After taking some of my own measurements, I came to the conclusion that the noise is due to the fact that the suction pick up tube (which is the bottom of the filter that is measured in the pictures : 20mm or 22mm depending were it’s measured from) touches the bottom of the transmission pan on one s...

Re: Suction noise after transmission fluid/filter service

Update: I CANNOT find any of those kits here in US. Not only that , no audi dealer here sells them either which is ridiculous. All the Uk stores will not ship to US, eBay wants $70 for shipping…and am not sure it’s even more with Trumps new tariffs. But, looking at the Vaico filter, the pick up tube...

Re: Suction noise after transmission fluid/filter service

Thanks guys for the input!
I’m in US so I’ll try to source a ZF filter here.
It sucks that I have to redo the job, but I guess sometimes it doesn’t pay to go aftermarket.

Suction noise after transmission fluid/filter service

It’s mostly noticeable in reverse but I can hear it in drive too. Car is on jack stands, haven’t driven it yet due to the noise. Background: I had the front end off for months and the transmission fuel lines drained abut 1-2 quarts during this time, and one of my suspicions is that there is an air g...

Re: More front caliper drama, well question, reallly

Thanks guys! I appreciate it. I was thinking I should do it, but I wasn’t sure. The instructions that come with the pins/clips do not mention it so I was a bit worried the pins might ‘walk’ out with copper slip or grease …
I’ll definitely add copper slip.

More front caliper drama, well question, reallly

So , I got new brake pads all around and was excited to slap them in… The front pins were rusted in and after hours of trying WD-40 and heat, I wound up drilling them out. Insane how rusted those pins were. A 5 minute job turned into hours of swearing… (talking about pounding the pins out with a pun...
