Re: Normal oil and coolant temperatures

Thanks. All good shouts. I can test the old thermostat v easily. I will have to get my head around vcds. Got the cable but have yet to explore it. Could be the diameter of the braided line I suppose. Surely a couple of millimetres wouldn’t make that much difference though. It’s like it either coolin...

Re: Normal oil and coolant temperatures

If I was now to go in a leisurely drive out of town at around 50pmh minimum revs it would cool even further and drop to around 70C at which point the thermostat closes and the oil temperature climbs all the way up to 120 again. Like a yoyo.

Re: Normal oil and coolant temperatures

This is where the needle is sitting right now - post spirited drive when the oil cooler / thermostat seems to be doing its job.

Re: Normal oil and coolant temperatures

Another observation - when I have given it full beans and the cooling kicks in. If I turn off the ignition and wait a couple of minutes then turn the engine back on. The temperature will remain under 90C. So I’m thinking this discounts any sensor issue? It’s got to be thermostat related hasn’t it? B...

Re: Normal oil and coolant temperatures

Just for some extra info, when the thermostat/oil cooler does kick in and I get the sudden oil cooling, it will drop from 120+ to approx 80C on the dial. After the cars been running at the cooler temperature for a while, the thermostat closes again and the oil temp will then start to warm up and get...

Re: Normal oil and coolant temperatures

Hi Steve,

Yes it will go up when standing in traffic. If I can keep the car travelling at a steady 50/60 it seems to keep the temps below 120.

The fans seems to be running when the engine is on. I would say they certainly ramp up when I turn off the ignition however. Is this normal?

Cheers

Re: Frayed wires on window regulator

Thanks. Yes I saw that. Have ordered a new regulator and will follow his example.

Frayed wires on window regulator

Today’s minor disaster. Drivers side window won’t close.

Took door card off and found that the wires on bottom left hand side of the regulator have frayed and are getting chewed up in the mechanism.

Managed to force it mostly closed.

What’s the best solution to this?

Thanks.

Re: Normal oil and coolant temperatures

I have acquired an infra red gun thermometer and taken a reading from the oil filter. (Easier than getting underneath with the heat sticker) Gauge is reading 120 as per normal but I’m getting 105C on the thermometer. So the sensor might be over reading…. Where is it located? Oil sump pan? Is it simp...

Rear parking sensor

I think I know the answer to this but do I have to pull the rear bumper to replace one of the parking sensors? Or is there a shortcut?

I have identified the faulty sensor and have a new part already sprayed up. Is it plug and play or will I need to use VCDS to reset etc?

Thanks

Re: Normal oil and coolant temperatures

Yeah had a flush. I haven’t got round to putting the temperature sticker on the filter yet so I need to check this. Garage said they let it idle up to 120 on the gauge. Gave it some revs to 3k rpm and the thermostat opened and cooled the system down. They were of the opinion that the system is worki...
