Re: Rear differential rebuild

Frustratingly the diff wasn’t the issue. The garage aren’t charging me for the labour changing the diff, as it was their call to change the diff, and have found a prop shaft to change on Monday. 🤞
Prop makes more sense to me as there is still this slight vibration plus the occasional clonk.

Re: Rear differential rebuild

Thanks Ben. They said they removed the prop shaft and rotated the diff, this would isolate the prop bearing? Hopefully they’re able to tell from that if it’s a fault within the diff. Sadly I’ve got to put my trust in them as I’ve not got the time, tools or skills to do the work myself. 😬🤞

Rear differential rebuild

Hi guys So I got the car down the garage to diagnose an occasional clonk that seemed to come from the rear of the car when selecting D or R. The garage removed the driveshaft, rotated the diff and the noise is coming from the diff. On the plus side better the diff than gear box. Has anyone heard of ...

Re: Slight vibration under acceleration

Still, it's easy enough to test for with the vagcom. You can see when the clutch is open, in the process of locking and locked in real time. If it coincides with your noises then that would be it. Most whining is belt noise or cavitation. I'd want to double check the ATF level. And make sure the ri...

Re: Brake lines

I went for the Hel flex front and rear on mine Steve. No complaints from the garage that fitted them. 👍

Isn't 40 mph where the torque converter lock up happens?
That’s far too technical for me to know what you’re talking about let alone suggesting. Can you tell me more?

Re: Strange noise and vibration.

No signs of wear and tear when they got her in the air Craig other that a wheel bearing.

Re: Strange noise and vibration.

Took her to the garage and the above all looked fine.

We did replace the FOS wheel bearing which helped with a slight grinding noise but unfortunately this didn’t cure the vibration nor fluttering noise.

Slight vibration under acceleration

I’ve had a slight vibration under acceleration since I put the car back on the road. It comes in at about 40mph and there’s a slight buffering noise, that disappears as you get faster. I’m convinced it’s the drive shaft support bracket. So I’ve gone and brought one of these and, by applying a bit of...

Strange noise and vibration.

Morning guys Can you please diagnose a fault with me. After I got the car back from it being off the road for 3 years, there’s an odd fluttering noise and very slight vibration that kicks in at 40mph, and goes onto a whine as the speed increases, from the front axel. At 40mph it sounds a bit like wh...
