Mine drained batteries in the winter.
It went into limp mode just after I had overtaken a load of traffic and I never found out why.
But it always started and went
They suffer from oil leaks but seem to be generally decent .

I ran a Touareg V10 for a year and 10,000 miles. It was a big deal for me because I earn little money. However,most jobs can be done with the engine in the car but not all. How this equates to the Phaeton , i don't know. Do plenty of research . My V10 was mapped to 360 hp and just shy of 700 ft Lb ....

When I fixed my corroded water pipes, I just drove the car until the temperature started to rise above normal and then turned it off for a while and had no more problems.

We have oil bath air filters on the diesel rotorvators at work.
In the summer they live in a cloud of dust and don't seem to suffer any damage .
Are they really that bad Nick?

Farm/horticultural machinery used to have oil bath air filters whereby the air is drawn down towards a bowl with oil in it. The debris gets thrown into the oils and suspended therein. It seems a very efficient method and is ancient. Would this system not suit cars considering airflow could probably ...
