Pads will typically squeal when worn down - some worse than others (e.g. the OEM Brembo's)
They'll also develop a deposit/glazing from city driving.

I've seen the thread on the SHW wavy rotors, but haven't found any EU sellers that are willing to ship to AU...

Ceramic discs are meant to last around 100k miles. Problem will be when the car approaches that sort of mileage only an idiot will buy a car with ceramics unless they plan on swapping all 4 calipers, discs and pads for the steel versions which will still be relatively expensive compared to the cost...
