1/4 mile times on standard car
I was just wondering if anyone here has taken a standard S4 down a quarter mile strip, and what times they got?

On the Vectra GSi there used to be confusion on this matter as the wheel used wasn't a design specially manufactured for Vauxhall but was an existing AST design. The wheel had ET35 stamped on the casting, however they had been machined to ET42. As the B5 S4 Avus wheel is unique in the 5x112 17" fitm...

On some vehicles increasing rim width without reducing offset can cause clearance issues on the inside. There seems to be plenty of space on the S4, as my rims are 8.5Jx19" ET42 with plenty of clearance. Caliper clearance becomes an issue on the S4 hence people runnin ET30, ET35 etc. However with th...

The issue isn't so much the wheel looks like it sits out, but the affect on the track. Running too lower an offset can cause tramlining and affect the steering etc. The chassis is set up to run a certain offset. Moving a few mm from this is one thing, but 20mm is quite significant. The wheels are ma...

I would definitely have a check. Unfortunately most places that sell alloys are clueless and will sell universal spacers as they only cost a couple of quid and are hassle-free to sell. But they're not clever, particularly on a performance car. Even easier, give me your 18s and a grand and fit my Lam...

RE: Gap between outside of brake caliper and wheel spokes
The issue with a universal spacer is that the rim won't be properly centred on the hub. Sometimes this won't be noticable, but the effects are similar to having an unbalanced wheel. Universal spacers will certainly work as a temporary measure, but should definitely only be used as temporary if possi...

RE: Gap between outside of brake caliper and wheel spokes
5mm of clearance is fine. It's worth using the slimmest spacers you can as moving the offset out much will affect the handling and increase tramlining. As mentioned above, definitely make sure the spacers are hubcentric as universal spacers are <beep> and will more than likely cause vibration.

No interest? I'm surprised, this is a top set of rims. Just a bit of further information - they are 8.5Jx19" ET42 with 5x112 PCD. The centre bore is also the correct Audi size. The wheels are a direct fit with no spacers, wobbly bolts, spiggot rings etc. needed, and caliper clearance is very good. T...
