I've got the exact same buttons on my D2 S8. The lower one opens the boot, the upper one inhibits the interior monitoring of the alarm when locking the car, e.g. with a dog inside!
The boot release I actually find useful. I don't have a dog and would never leave it loose in a locked car anyway.

Re: Rear view mirror failed
I can't quickly go and check it, but I'm pretty sure my 2002 (D2) S8 has a very similar dimming mirror system, but with one very significant difference. The external mirrors are those horrible sealed multi-layer units with fluid inside and a thick surround (and one of mine is definitely failing and ...

Re: Navigation plus code help
Assuming it's an RNS-D there are (or were) cheap/free decoder services available online, just need the serial number off the label.
BUT, it's not just gone "SAFE" has it, often caused by a wiring defect?

Re: Xenon headlight bulb replacement
Bi-Xenons don't move the reflector. There's a tiny black shield, inside the bulb, that is moved electrically to change how much beam is available. Turn your headlights on and look at them while getting someone to switch between dipped and full. With Bi-Xenons it's just one light each side which will...

Re: Xenon headlight bulb replacement
If you get a pair it doesn't matter, but probably 4200K originally. A colour mismatch "can" be an MOT fail. There are so many fakes out there (£20 eBay will definitely be) especially Philips, so Osram are more likely genuine. £90-£100 each is the right price range. First try swapping the bulbs, if y...

Re: 20 th MOT
Well done, my S8 had a totally clean MOT back in February, actually the 24th in its life due to a few failures in the past (all easily fixed). As for age well, it's about to be 21 (built in April 2002) but not according to DVLA as it wasn't actually first registered until October 2003! I don't actua...

Re: Period accessories (Audi, MTM, ABT)
And the Audi options list. (I do love my solar panels) 03rs6-options.pdf Interesting that the solar panel (for air flow when parked) was part of a "Warm weather" option package along with the (manual) side window blinds and electric rear blind. My 2002 S8, and every other one I've seen, has those 3...

Re: Wing Mirror Glass
The black surround is a seal because the glass has multiple layers one of which is I think sort of liquid. Newer types of dimming glass (and I think the interior one) use a different technology. If you really want an OEM one from Audi Tradition then A8Parts (Prestige) can get it shipped to them in t...

Re: Wing Mirror Glass
Basically yes. I think your mirror glass is actually identical to mine (2002 S8) and I have the same issue. Only I have a full set of spare non-dimming mirrors that I know work fine as they were on the car before I sourced the dimming ones. I don't think you'll find any proper dimming ones now, unle...

Re: Transferring NCB
Not nonsensical at all, unless you're used to an equally nonsensical system that works differently!
The driver is only a part of the risk insurers cover. e.g. if you have two cars and are out driving one, the other is available to be nicked!

Re: Transferring NCB
Most insurers will offer temporary cover at "reasonably fair" rates to cover such situations, certainly for a few days maybe weeks. I've done this many times and never felt overcharged. Or are you trying to keep both for a extended period? In which case that is the way NCB works and ALWAYS has in th...

Re: Navigation plus CD wont load!
OK, rewind, NavPlus101. Where EXACTLY do you get the "no CD" message and what EXACTLY is its wording?
(There can be confusion between Audio CDs in the 6-CD changer unit usually in the boot and Navigation map CDs in the head unit)
